I visited just recently and was blown away by the knowledge the staff displayed. They answered all my questions thoroughly and kindly, and as a history buff, I had quite a few. One employee in particular, who told me his name was Nick, was particularly kind and went out of his way to hold the door for me even though he appeared to be pushing a wheelbarrow full of wood. I will definitely be visiting again and I fully intend to reccomend this place to my friends and family.
Very nice place to visit. Especially when they have the gun performance. Very cool!
Ticket was cheap, about 4-5$ to go inside the museum and the yard.
Highly recommend to visit once.
Fabulous heritage site with a lot of information about the War of 1812. My husband and I visited on a Sunday in August and saw various demonstrations of musket fire as well as cannon-fire.
Everyone was in period costumes and the people demonstrating Camp / Fort life were informative and friendly.
A gentleman showed us and discussed the use of various surgical tools used by the battlefield surgeons of the time.
This is a must see in Amherstburg. The guides were knowledgeable, polite, and dressed in character. The musket demonstration was top notch. Great care has been taken to recreate the actual feel of the fort, and the grounds are superbly maintained. We are told they cook an amazing lunch on the weekends in the cooking area, and it is delicious!!
This is a good place to visit to learn about the war of 1812 and the importance of the fort. During business hours the buildings are open to the public with a view to the time period, knowledge staff and on certain days reenactments.
This location is also used for other activities throughout the year - Art By The River, Canada Day and other events. This is a great spot to view the Canada Day fireworks by the town. It is also close to the park/splash pad and the Navey Yard Park.
