Omg the waters are so blue , definitely worth the hike. Grueling going back up lol but you should have buns of steel after
A great hike in the woods near the water. Be sure to be prepared with proper footwear. Some areas are very rocky, while other areas are on a steep incline.
This is a hidden gem in the Niagara area. Nicely built stair and trail to lead from the parking area to the river side. The scenery is beautiful particularly in the fall colour. The hike might be a little bit challenging because of the long staircase, but you will be rewarded by the beautiful view of the Niagara river.
Wonderful trail. It was short but a little intense because of the steep steps, but once you get to the water area, you’ll see that the hike was worth it! You get a nice, open view of the river and the white water currents from afar. You can also see the cable car above in the distance (not too far) too.
Parking is not free but the parking prices seem fair. I parked at the fisherman’s lot and paid $2.50 for 1 hour.
Located between Whirlpool Road and the Whirlpool restaurant with a small free parking lot nearby, From the top there are 80 uneven wood steps that are 6 feet wide and about 12 inches high. These are followed by 150 smaller wood steps that are 3 feet wide and 8 inches high. Next is a mixture of stone steps and dirt trail. At the water there are several small trails around the cove,. The cove is below the Spanish Whirlpool car ride and you can see the car going across. The Whirlpool jet boats do a slip around in the cove. Not busy for a free trail only, few hikers and fishermen. Excellent view of the rapids and the swirling water. Fairly clean but a few people have left some garbage ( empty water bottles and Starbucks coffee cups ) Some people are lazy litters. The hike up is strenuous and you need to be in good shape or stop and rest often. Wear good runners or hiking shoes. There is also a trail at the top that leads around the cove and exits closer to the restaurant. An excellent adventure.
