This is a great trail with a gorgeous lake at the top. Did it with two adults and four 11-year-olds and no issues. Obviously watch out for big roots, loose rocks, and the handful of "steps" that were made by giants. The lake has some nice spots where you can sit and have a picnic. The path around it is beautiful and overgrown; so many cool plants and flowers. The road in has some potholes big enough to swallow your car, so make sure to go slow and keep an eye out. NW Forest Pass required (or $5 for the day).
Lake was really nice! Nice short hike.
Beautiful slightly moderate hike. Lot of potholes on the way. Hike is a bit rocky with lot of roots in between. Couple of places i had to use hands to navigate the terrain.
Some bugs. Not much views till u get to the lake. the loop around lake is breathtaking.
My 10 yo enjoyed this hike.
You should try it, will u?
Does require NW forest pass. U can pay in the tube outside vault toilet. Or if u have America the Beautiful pass its included NW forest .
1. Plenty parking in early Dec sunny Sunday
2. Was partly icy and rocks were slippery so I would suggest you carry spikes and poles. Good waterproof boots must with good traction
3. Took me around 4 hours total with 30 mins rest at average pace
4. Lots of potholes so high clearance advised
5. Lake was half frozen. We took a loop around it. It was a winter wonderland and simply beautiful.
Pilchuck road up to the trailhead is rough. Giant potholes cover the whole road. Take it slow and be careful with your car. Area is known for car prowlers so don’t leave valuables. Trail is a calm 2.1 miles each way and it’s probably another mile if you do the loop around the lake. Beautiful hike!
