(December 2, 2017, 4:24 pm)The Pump House tower was built in 1861 to house a coal-fired steam engine and pump to circulate water in the lake, irrigate the plants in the park and keep the artificial rock cascades flowing. It was in operation until the 1930's.
It is now an art gallery, which spaces over 3 levels which, at the current time, have an immersive audio-visual exhibition by the artist Zadie Xa: "The Conch, Sea Urchin and Brass Bell" which makes excellent use of the spaces and the staircase and is an excellent counterpoint to the Pump House, its setting by the lake and its historic use.
Definitely well worth seeing.
The exhibitions are free and there is also an activity room for groups. The staff were very friendly and informative about the building and the exhibition. -
