Magical place. Kids loved looking for owls all over the house. Extremely friendly hosts and delicious Swedish home-baked goods in the simple and affordable cafe. The garden is a joy. Will go back!
Lovely 2 hrs at the enchanted woodland, lots of creative play with plenty of arts and crafts activities to keep a 4 and 5 year old amused. They loved decorating wands, making potions. Chasing the goblins and the games were fun. Loved the bow and arrows, crossbow and slingshot which made their day
Lovely family home atmosphere, because the family really still live there. Garden with picnic space including trees to give shade. The front gate is a bit narrow, especially if you approach from the east but there is a parking field straight ahead once you get in. I think next time I might go up the lane opposite, find somewhere to turn round then have a straight approach to the gate. The guides were all knowledgeable and there is a small self service tea room. If the musical box is not playing, ask them to demonstrate it. It is lovely!
By National Trust standards this is a small property. Open only on a Sunday but what a great place.
House has a good story and history.
Gardens were nice to walk around.
Cakes are home made by descendants of the original owner.
Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
Well worth a visit.
Good place for a short trip out for an hour or so. Or you could take a picnic and stay longer to enjoy the simple meadow-like gardens. Fascinating insight into the cultural and political aspects of the Victorian era through the eyes of an under-appreciated architect. All the more interesting because the property is still his descendants' family home.
