“Not many places to sit in the bar area, but feels like it will have a great atmosphere on a weekend, went in on a Saturday afternoon and lots of people watching football on the numerous screens around the pub, both inside and out. Garden had plenty of benches. Didnt go into the restaurant area but looked through the window and that looked spacious, the food that came past us in the bar looked pretty good.”

“Spent 5 long weekends here over the space of 9 months. Wonderful setting to study. Absolutely beautiful. Wonderful food. And staff were very friendly. Also stayed twice but found it very basic. Single bed and noisy. But it did the job. Would highly recommend studying there and eating there. Couldn't fault it!”

“Went for Christmas lunch with my sister's. On arrival booking hadn't been recorded, but luckily a table was available. Drinks a bit pricey, but this is a Greene King pub so no surprise. Staff on duty when we arrived a bit off, maybe it was our fault they messed up the booking, it seemed like it!! However, food was top notch! The lamb shoulder cooked to perfection, all other meals 100%. Also staff that came in later much more friendly. Would have got 5 stars except for the initial attitude.”

“Just spent a couple of nights here with my sister's we had an amazing time the food is to die for, the service is second to none and the overall stay was brilliant.. Would definitely come again and have the tentative service from Ernest in the restaurant. All staff were very friendly and helpful and even though my bed was too soft for me the room and the cleanliness was top notch.. Also if you get a chance have a treatment done with the on-site beautician.”

“An amazing store, and nice nooks and crannies that kids will love when going around. Most products are high end and high prices, so without the privilege card and looking out for when they have their discount days, their privilege card is worth it if you are going to visit more than a few times in a year. However, you will find many of the gardening products cheaper elsewhere or online, but it is a great place if you want to shop for inspirational ideas for gifts and relax and have a coffee, a cake or something more substantial. Parking is on many levels and at busy times it's hard to load a vehicle in the bays outside when you can't push them up the steep hill.”

“The Poet is a pub. A pub that has a better dining experience than most restaurants. We (five of us) had the autumn tasting menu with wine pairings. A very flavourful and perfectly paced nine course meal was presented to us. All five of us enjoyed every course. It wasn't 100% perfect. My beef was slightly over done, but the other diner with me said his beef was fine. Don't misunderstand me, the flavours and presentation of the beef dish were still very good, just mine was cooked a bit past where it should have been. And, the only other criticism was that two of the desert servings were a bit two much alike. Both very tasty though so it's only a tiny criticism. The service was fantastic. Attentive. Friendly. Any small conversations we had with the staff were always delightful or amusing. They managed to keep the feel of the place perfectly balanced between a fine dining establishment and a yet still a pub. And, as I said perfect pacing to the food and wine. Top notch.”
