Humane Society of Elmore County

While searching for a dog for my family several years ago we went to shelters and stores in multiple counties. We ended up adopting from the Elmore County Humane Shelter. Of all the shelters we visited at the time, this one was the best. One thing we noticed right away was that the shelter smelled clean. There were a couple of shelter mascots wandering around in the lobby and office. The adult cats have their own cozy petting room. The people who work there LOVE their animals, and give up their time and money to care for them. If you are looking to give to an animal charity, give locally, starting with this one.

We returned a few years later looking for a second dog to join our family. Unfortunately, the day we visited the power was out and several of the people working there were a bit snippy. We decided to go back another time and ended up adopting from Montgomery County instead. I realize that some people who are great with animals may have trouble with people. However for the sake of the animals you are trying to find a good home for it's worth the effort to be friendly.

I cannot say enough great things!! I filled out their adoption form online and within 10 minutes had a response and an appointment scheduled for that afternoon to see the dog we were interested in. Upon arrival, the staff was very friendly, the facility was very nice and clean, and the dogs seemed very happy and healthy! We chose a sweet little fella to bring home and the staff had all of the information we needed to know and more! I would HIGHLY recommend visiting this location for adoption!
