A bit challenging, but very scenic. Bring plenty of water at any.time of year.
Started from this trailhead out to the Maricopa Trail. It’s a nice enough trail, maybe a little less groomed than one would expect for the fact that it’s in the regional park with the $7 entry fee.
It’s definitely nice/essential to go out early in the summer. My particular visit was after the trail got some rain so the trail was damp (nice not to kick up dust). Definitely a pretty accessible trail for most that can cover 5 miles and are motivated by some great desert views.
This is a great trail, the full loop is nearly 5 miles and well balanced, with high and low routes.
The Go John trail was a great experience. We are beginner hikers and it was desolate in a beautiful way. There are wonderful views and plants and a few animals. We were hoping we might see a tortoise as apparently sometimes there is a chance. We heard a coyote which was very cool. The views are not as dramatic as some area hikes but the scenery is gorgeous. It's about 6 miles but not too steep in most parts.
Great hiking, horse back or biking trails. Very popular, gets busy on the weekends. Beautiful desert scenary and a nature center. Go do some hiking or horse back riding!! Reaso able horse rides. Call ahead. They do have sunset horse rides, also!!
