Dr. Steve W. Chang

I was referred to Dr. Chang by a friend that is a nurse that works with him at Barrows Brain and Spine at St. Joseph's Hospital. I have had issues with my neck feeling stiff or stressed from years, but within the past 3-4 years the issues have progressed to more constant pain, with only some relieve from pain medication. This is not the path I wanted to continue. So, with Chris's recommendation I contacted Dr. Chang's office to proceed with setting an appointment. Unfortunately, due to COVID, he was not seeing any patients, and could only schedule a Telehealth visit.
We met and discussed the issues and the review of my x-rays. He explained what his thought were and how he felt that surgery would be the best way to resolve the issues. He answered all my questions when we were on the call and we agreed to proceed with the surgery.
I called numerous times and spoke with Ann in the office and she answered even more questions that I had. Needless to say, I was scared to death about the surgery. She was always very accommodating, kind and patient. Ann contacted me about scheduling the necessary pre-op procedures. On the day of surgery, I met with with one of Dr. Chang's associates and also with Dr. Chang. They both were really good at making me feel at ease and comfortable with the procedure, which helped with the stress I was feeling as I prepared for the surgery. The were joking with me and this REALLY helped.
The surgery went very well per the doctors comments to my husband and also from my point of view. I am still in the recovery stages, not even 3 weeks from the surgery and I am doing well. Once again, Ann has been there to answer all my calls and emails with questions I have regarding the recovery, medications, etc.
My first follow up with Dr. Chang went very well.
To sum it up, I have been very happy with the care I have received from Dr. Chang and his staff and would highly recommend them.

Dr. Chang has done an incredible job in helping me with debilitating issues with my spine (from Rheumatoid Arthritis and degenerative disc disease). I'm so grateful for his wisdom and expertise! When I first saw Dr. Chang, I was partially paralyzed and walking with a walker. Less than a year later (and two major surgeries by Dr. Chang) and I am walking unassisted and returning to work as an educator without any support to do my job. I am so happy with the process from start to finish of getting me back on my feet (literally). Without Dr. Chang's help this year, I would have been a quadriplegic (within only a few months of my first visit). DR Steve Chang performed a three level laminectomy for spinal cord decompression, partial L3,full L4, full L5 and partial S1 . Approaching a three week of recovery within the next four days. I'm ecstatic at the positive results in pain elimination and the life changing results due to the remarkable talents of Dr. Chang and his team.
The entire staff of Barrow Brain & Spine have been wonderful since my first contact with the office in understanding and correction of my health and medical issues.
I can't say enough to emphasize my positive experience with DR Chang?

Dr Chang's office was amazing. Everyone I came in contact with was very friendly. Ann his assistant always took care of everything every step of the way including dealing with my difficult insurance. The office was clean and followed all the Covid directives. Any appointments that didn't require a face to face were held on a web call which was very convenient.

Now to the best part, my neck is fixed. C-5/6/7 fusion. Surgery was quick and relatively painless, recovery was quick and all my pain and numbness is gone. A blessing for sure.

Dr Chang is amazing, professional, and straight forward like you would want in a Dr.

Dr. Steve W. Chang saved my life he did a neck fusion 9/18 and brain surgery 12/19 and recommended weight loss surgery which I did 5/18 .... He’s very honest, respectful, dependable very through.. Before my surgeries he took the time to explain to my family exactly what he was doing never made an promises but thankfully with his wonderful hands and team I have no pain that I’ve had for 20+ years ... His assistant is so personable always guarantee to make you comfortable and laugh.. Everyone I talked with in Dr. Chang office is a true blessing when they said they would get back to they would in the timeframe they stated .. office was always clean and never a long wait to be called back..
