An 800ish cubic inch race engine could have something like 3 times the horsepower, and 2/3s as much torque. (guessing) Properly geared ect I suspect the race engine would get the 80,000 pound load up the hill quicker. However, the 2000 rpm diesel with similar cubic inches will last a million or more miles.
