Eileen Morgan is not only a talented multi-instrumentalist musician, but an insightful, determined teacher who continually strives to apply the theories of musical education to students who may have anything from years of musical practice, to none at all. Her regular classes range from children, to beginner adults, to people with multiple years of taiko playing. Whatever your current level of skill, there is a class for you! You’ll discover muscles you never knew you had, and make powerful, stirring music.
Fushicho Daiko Dojo has been a presence in Phoenix since the 1990s, and has contributed to public events like the Phoenix Matsuri, the Asian Arts Festival, the Fiesta Bowl Parade, and the Phoenix Half Marathon for many years. Eileen Sensei organizes travel trips with students to Japan on alternate years, so that students can experience classes with Japanese taiko teachers, as well as some of the culture and beauty of Japan. She also maintains strong connections to the wider taiko community in Japan and in the US, encouraging students to attend special workshops by visiting taiko performers and teachers.
An Awesome Taiko Drumming School!!!
I absolutely love this dojo!! Taiko has become a huge part of my life, and I can't say enough good things about Eileen sensei.
Definitely thought I probably wouldn't be good enough to ever play taiko, but her instruction made it happen! As well as all of the kind fellow taiko players. I am so grateful to be a part of it! Highly recommend if you're looking for an amazing and interactive new hobby, for almost all ages and sizes.
Drumming with a community gives you a sense of euphoria when it all comes together. The power of the drums and the synchronization of a group of people pushing the music creates something more than the sum of its parts.
I recently took an Intro to Taiko Drumming class at this location; what a fun experience. I grew up drumming and so it wasn't difficult for me, but no one else had any drum experience and the instructor, Eileen, was able to show people who have NEVER done anything like this how to do so. She made it fun, funny, and educational, and at the end of 90 minutes we all knew a short four-measure drum tune using various drum techniques.
And never underestimate the therapeutic value of hitting big drums with sticks very hard and making loud noises :)
