From being the first religious organization to collectively take a stand against slavery, to playing a leading role in the women's rights movement, to helping establish conscientious objection to the military draft, to being the first (and yet only) religious organization to have an affiliate be awarded a Nobel Peace Prize, Friends have always asserted themselves as advocates of peace and equality, values that arise out of the belief that there is a piece of the God in every person.
Friends in Phoenix Meeting continue the long history of identifying injustices and working to resolve them. Though thw group is small (30-40 people) there are individuals involved in prison outreach, environmental justice, community gardens, support for a Syrian refugee famil, and othee causes. And members are energized by lively discussions about improving the world that take place on 2nd and 4th Wednesday nights. Meeting for Worship on Sundays at 10am usually involves one hour of the attenders coming together for silent reflection and connection with God (or the Divine). It takes some getting used to at first, but I've found it very valuable in my life, and see it as very well integrated with my Christian worldview (though not all attenders would identify as Christian). Quakerism is more about action, both in our form of worship and in the way we display love in the world, than determining the correct theology.
