This was amazing! I went with my mom who hadn’t ridden in 20+ years. We reached out the evening before and Jaime was very prompt in reaching out to us. We set up a time for the following day.
When we arrived, Jaime and Mark (her husband, who ended up being our guide) were getting the horses ready. They were incredibly friendly. We told them our riding level (novice!) and Mark picked out two suitable horses for us — Tuff and Remington. Tuff had a brand on him and they explained that he was a wild mustang that Mark had gotten from the BLM, trained and then gone to auction after they trained him (it’s part of the program). They purchased him. It was really cool learning about this!
Then, we got ready to ride. We opted to wear helmets — but if you don’t want to then you simply need to sign a release. I was given a bag to hold my water bottle and phone on the ride. We used a block to get on the horses, made sure our feet felt good in the stirrups, and we’re given an orientation to riding and on how to correct the horses if they tried to stop and eat grass. Then, we got on the trail.
The trail was beautiful. We rode single file with Mark leading, my mom in the middle, and then me. What I enjoyed was the varied conditions we rode in. We rode in the outwash, up hill sides and by saguaro cacti. I was surprised how lush the area was.
It was clear the horses were well trained. Outside of trying to eat grass once or twice, they were incredibly well behaved — even when a diamond back rattle snake was in the trail and stood up. It was incredible watching Mark’s ability with his horse during this situation and neither my mom nor me ever felt nervous.
Throughout the ride, Mark gave us information about the area and his interesting life around horses.
I’d highly recommend this experience whether or not you have a lot of experience riding. We signed up for the 1.5 hour ride but my mom was ready to be done earlier because riding can be painful on your legs. Mark was more than accommodating.
I hope to do this again if I come back to
The Tucson area!
Amazing experience! The owners are so friendly and experienced. The sunset ride is worth every penny with beautiful scenery riding through the desert trails. We couldn’t have asked for a better ride!
My adult son and I enjoyed a horseback sunset ride at Boomerang. We both loved the ranch, both owners/guides were genuine people who truly made the experience simply wonderful. The horses were well mannered and cared for and the ride was smooth as we are novices. I highly recommend taking the time to prance through the Sonoran with Jamie and her husband. We preferred much more than hiking.
Absolutely loved the sunset ride. Brought a group of 3 adults and one child and we all had a great time in gorgeous desert scenery. The boomerang crew is exceptional and their horses are beautiful and very well trained. Will definitely visit them again!
Had an amazing time visiting AZ last week (2/6 - 2/11). On Wednesday, we visited Boomerang Riding Adventures for a horse back ride. It was amazing! The scenery and serenity, so peaceful. Loved it!! I rode Tuff and my friend rode Remington.
