Tried takeout from this place during the SIP/lockdown. Overall, we enjoyed the dishes we ordered especially the mac&cheese, burger, and steak. There was just one issue with the caesar salad. The description on their menu didn’t mention anchovies, but it came with several mixed in. Unfortunately, my wife and daughter were going to split this salad but they don’t like any seafood. Other than that, I look forward to trying some of the other items next time.
We sort of stumbled into this spot while looking for somewhere to have dinner with friends. It's located along a street that feels like it's from another era in the most charming way. The four of us didn't have a reservation, so we were offered a table in the small area at the entrance of the restaurant. Their main seating area is in the back, but this was perfectly cozy! We started with the cheese board and the charcuterie board. Both were delicious. I'd say the highlight was the bacon molasses that came with the cheese. For the entrees, I had the duck and my husband had the NY strip. The duck was so delicious with it's dense yet tender texture and perfectly crispy skin. The whole table agrees that the star of the night was the NY strip. It was pricey, but I've never had such a tender, flavorful, perfectly cooked piece of meat! My husband kept saying, "this is ridiculous" after each bite. It was like butter in steak form. The meal was obviously great, and the service matched it.
The ingredients are fresh and premium. The servings are enough to get full, and still have enough to take home. The ambiance is fun and presented in a clean aesthetic with tasteful rock/ punk vibe. The financial investment is evident, but what sets this place apart from anywhere else within a 12 mile radius is the food preparation. You can have the best venue and ingredients and still not manage to put the food on the plate like they do there. At Ambrose Butchery the duck is prepared as if it was genetically reproduced. Perfect. The steak was both pink and charred to perfection and required no utensils to eat. I've been there twice and have almost eaten half of what they have to offer. It's part of my top five East Bay list.
Small local business please support them, their food is something out of a fine dining restaurant. The setting is casual and relaxed here. Just what the East Bay needed. Even if we did not live in the East Bay we would definitely come back to this restaurant. They have a great beer and wine selection. They are open for lunch with a different menu from dinner. Pet friendly patio as well so you know we will be bringing in our fur babies soon! On top of all that they have a butchery with fresh cuts! Their sausage in the butchery is delicious.
We had a couple of beers, which were well priced, and shared the Humbolt Fog, which was delicious. They are also working on opening a patio in the back that will be great to hang out at. Patty, the co-owner, provided amazing service. I definitely recommend this place!
