The Oakland Zoo puts the education of the public about the animals of this world and the very well being of said animals in its care at the forefront. The keepers are highly trained, personable and compassionate. The animals have outstanding, large habitats and tons of enrichment. The California Trail is worth the price of admission alone. This will always be my favorite zoo and I just purchased a membership so as I can continue to visit and learn.

Do you have kids? It's a hilly zoo, good for keeping them entertained and tuckering them out for the car ride home. Also, a very cute petting zoo with goats and sheep will give them that fix of wanting to pet the animals. There are kids rides and a fun train to keep their attention when they tire of walking.

All in all just a great zoo set in the hills of Oakland. You should visit. Plus, they have elephants. :)

I was Super impressed with this zoo! They've made a Lot of improvements since I was here last, and from what I saw, they were all good. The gondola ride was worth the wait and far more secure than the sky ride. This zoo was So much better than the San Francisco Zoo! No contest! It really seems as though someone thought long and hard about space for the animals! Well done!

Great family experience. The zoo layout is very convenient, you can start from the Giraffe enclosure, loop around the African species, take a break at the petting zoo at the very end, walk back and see if you missed anything on the first level. Then take a cable car up to the second level and check out the local California species. Once done, ride back down, exit out, turn left and take the train ride to Australia section. This will complete your entire walkabout. Have fun.

Awesome!!!! One of the BEST zoos I've ever been too! The first, in fact. I used to live in Oakland and conveniently close to the zoo. Even now in Danville, a town in Contra Costa County, but along the border of Alameda County, I still live close, for it is on the other side of San Ramon and Castro Valley. I've always loved that zoo ever since I was little and I still love it now. Eleven years ago, I also attended a zoo camp program and LOVED IT!!!! I also love their cafe, gift shop, and the various attractions - including the train, one of the best parts of all!

I strongly recommended this zoo to everyone - especially those that live in the East Bay. I also recommend this zoo to scientists, like myself, those that want the access to animals they don't usually get to encounter, those that love nature and being outdoors, and all Lion King fans, such as me!!

Every time I've been to the Oakland Zoo, the place has also reminded me of the animal/nature films I grew up with such as Dumbo, The Jungle Book, and of course, The Lion King. I've been there many times with friends and I'm strongly hoping to get a job there someday.

I've had so much experience with the Oakland Zoo and have loved it! Everyone there is treated like friends and family. It is a perfect place for others to spend time at and socialize, and also to hold events.

If you need time to spend with lions, tigers, elephants, bears or other animals you don't get to be with everyday, come to the Oakland Zoo and see how awesome that zoo really is!

Huge zoo! It’s incredibly lovely and completely worth the trip. You can tell the animals are well taken care of and look healthy to boot. I loved the sky ride and the view - it is incredible and relatively smooth. One guide yesterday at the wolves section was incredibly informative and very kind :) wished we could’ve thanked her but by the time we remembered we already had left, but I do hope she saw this and had a lovely day. I plan on going again one day.
