I've been training here for 6 years. Burbank Danzan Dojo is a great place to get a mix of application and form. The cirriculum affords the opportunity to learn skills for handling multiple threat ranges and achieving threat relevant outcomes. If one is inclined, support and training are provided to attain a nationally recognized blackbelt.
I remember searching for a long time to find my ideal Martial Arts training scenario, when I finally found Burbank Danzan Dojo it was such a relief! 4 years later I'm still happy with my choice to join. In addition to finding an affordable place to train with nationally recognized instructors, and good people, there is very little ego, a low emphasis on competition, and a strong focus on practical self defense. Danzan Ryu JuJitsu is a traditional Japanese martial art with strong Hawaiian influences, this dojo in particular also brings in many influences from Filipino martial arts, weapons training and to really keep it balanced a Healing Arts curriculum. Definitely worth checking out!
I've been training here for the last three years or so, and it's been nothing short of fulfilling. I've studied martial arts for most my life, mainly for sport, but I was looking for something that practiced an art for the art's sake as well as something that had a practical aspect, i.e. good self-defense methods. This experience met that criteria and more. In addition to a great system (traditional Japanese Jujitsu mixed with weapon arts, Filipino martial arts, and even a Healing arts component) the instructors and the people are great. They're great teachers who have a years of experience and pedigree. And lastly, who can beat the price??
