(September 22, 2018, 2:42 am)Amazing place! Super beautiful and quaint. Not too expensive in my opinion. I came in thinking I was getting one succulent since it was my first, but came out personalizing my own mini garden! Super pleased!
(September 14, 2018, 12:22 pm)This nursery has caring and educated staff. They are so helpful. The inventory is huge. They have everything and anything. Indoor and outdoor. I was very sad to read the review posted a few days ago where a woman gave this nursery 1 star. This one review does not reflect this business at all. I have been coming here since I was little. It's a good place to walk around with the kids and even snap a few beautiful pictures.
(September 13, 2018, 12:02 pm)Actually I did not know that La Crescenta nursery had been sold as one reviewer commented. What I have noticed in 30 years of gardening,is the drastic change in inventory at all our local nurseries due to the Western states’ drought. LCN has been hit like the best of them.
With rain a distant memory for many residents, cherished mom and pop vendors like Burkhard’s in Pasadena closed their doors as faucets were turned off and sales dwindled. Gardens were ripped out and (ugh) desert plants inserted in their stead. The inventory of lesser publicly known flowering plants at larger chain stores like Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Armstrong’s Garden Center(which is no longer a nursery but simply a retailer) was greatly reduced, and buyers are now offered the same varieties of roses, vinca, petunias, and such over and over. Hardier varieties and water wise are cheaper to grow and more likely to thrive. These newcomers have sort of been pushed on buyers over the last 8 years.
La Crescenta Nursery seems, like all private nurseries to have slowed the inventory a bit(inventory is expensive to maintain when it needs to be watered daily). I come to buy bushes and a few of my flowers. Lately they might not have as many bushes I want to buy of one sort, but if I wait a little the shipment does come in and I am able to get multiples of one plant. You just have to be patient.
Here’s what this nursery does best: 1) The employees are highly experienced and their horticulture knowledge extensive. 2) They sell bushes like the always-green arborvitae in a mid-mature state. I can buy a bush that is 4 feet tall (from soil upward)and not wait for eight years of growth. This is not possible at the big box stores where 1 gallon containers are being pushed upon consumers for a faster profit from the growers.
