Valley Head Service went 7’s with a n/a sbc in the 1/4 back in the day (still nearly impossible). Carrol Shelby entrusted VHS to do his machine work back then. A legacy more than good for my humble Buick(LR) heads. The dudes over at VHS are great! Bent a valve on my old aluminum Buick/Land Rover heads. Sure enough VHS did a fantastic job on my heads!
Professional with high values. Valley Head did a set of heads for me many years ago. I was extremely pleased with the heads and the additional advice for my engine build. The workmanship was beautiful.
I called in to ask about services and was happy to hear that I will be dealing with the same person whom worked with me before. I have a very good relationship with other high end shops and think that Valley Head may be the best ones for my current project so I am driving past the other whom I love their work, driving an hour to see what Valley Head can do.
Higher end shops are not for everyone - I am very particular about my machine work and my builds. I start off and build out what I want with an end result in mind. That means I have a cam grinder because off the shelf won't work. I have a shop that only uses the higher end metals for valve seats and does nothing but radius seats and so forth. I have another that specializes in just one type of head. Yes Jimmy Jack Six Pack says they can do that too but they only do two per year. I know what it means to be let down when the work isn't up to par so I am willing to wait my turn for service and wait the time needed for them to work my job into their schedule --- If you want high quality work then places like Valley Head are the ones to deal with.
My experience is with machine shops especially the higher end ones, where everyone is working they might not be able to walk away from or stop what they are working on. One that I deal with won't even talk to a walk in during race season...You have to have an appointment because their builds start in the thousands, they have deadlines to meet and if you want them to work on your street head then you have to wait.
I expect high quality so I am going to Valley Head and IF they are too busy when I get there I will wait my turn or come back.
Larry is the real deal!!! Old school knowledge and old school machining! He did an amazing rebuild on my slant 6 motor! I already have it in the 1964 Dodge Dart and it runs like a dream!
