Blue Skies Ranch

Blue Skies Ranch was a fantastic place for my mother. The living conditions are exemplary, and the staff truly caters to each clients needs. Not only could I visit my mother with ease, but I could also be sure that she was receiving the best care even when I wasn’t around. I was delighted to have a place where my mother could feel like a normal person, living in a normal house, surrounded by people and activity. The final stage of life is not an easy journey for anyone, not for my mother, not for me or my family, but finding a good assisted living provider certainly helps to ease the stress. I would certainly recommend Blue Skies Ranch to anyone looking for quality assisted living.

My mom was in assisted living before she was hospitalized with an infection. She then went to a skilled nursing facility before we had to decide whether to send her back to assisted living or to a board and care home. We eventually decided a board and care would be more suited to her needs and we were referred to Blue Skies Ranch by an agency. From the moment I called Eilene(the owner), I knew this was the right decision. Eilene is a lovely caring person and took excellent care of my mother in her last months. Eilene previously had taken care of her elderly mother and knew what families needed wasn't always available. She started the Blue Skies Ranch and redid the home. It is beautifully decorated and always smelled nice. It is also on a quiet street in a nice area. Eilene is also an RN and was not only compassionate, she loved spending time with my mother. She also lives in the home with the residents. My mom loved her and loved the ranch and Eilene's daughter Shannon. The caretakers played games with the tenants in the living room and let residents help pick their meals. All of the meals were served with such beautiful dishes and always looked wonderful. Eilene would spend hours watching tv with my mom and chatting with her. It is a smaller board and care with only 3-4 residents at a time. I would highly recommend it for anyone that needs more care than they can get at home. I also felt much safer having her there than in a larger facility due to the pandemic. My mom was able to visit with the other residents and play games and watch tv since there were only 3 of them. They also have a nice area set up outside for visiting. I highly recommend Blue Skies Ranch!

I think my biggest fear, as a grown adult, was what will happen if my Mom becomes unable to take care of herself?

That big fear came to life when my Mom took a bad step at her home.  She lived all alone and it took hours before someone found her on the floor.

She was admitted to the hospital, then a skilled nursing facility for PT. I did not want her going back to a skilled nursing facility. First, because of the Pandemic she could not have any visitors.  Second, most of those facilities smell like urine, the food is horrible and the care is not what I wanted for my Mom.

When I was told she had to be moved, but she couldn’t go home because she could not walk, I was lost.  What was I going to do?

I knew at 86 and with her medical conditions, if she went into a Nursing Home she would never come out alive.

Then I heard about the option of a Board and Care.  I really didn’t know what that was but, I was told it would be the best place for my mom at this time.

I got a couple of referrals and decided I would go check them out.

My first option was Blue Skies Ranch, in Tarzana.  I knew this was about 5 miles from my Mom’s home and she knew the area well. This way she wouldn’t feel lost in her new home surroundings .

I called and spoke with Eilene, the and owner and who also happens to be a RN..  After just a few minutes I felt extremely comfortable and at ease about my mom going to live there. Eilene was so sweet, understanding, caring and put my mind at ease.  I just knew this was the ideal place for my mom.

The next step was to meet her in person and check out Blue Skies Ranch. It is located in a lovely neighborhood.

Eilene came out to meet with me. All I can say is, what a “Gem” she is.

She explained everything to me. By talking with Eilene on the phone and now in person it only reinforced this was the place for my Mom.

I took a tour of Eilene’s home and was so impressed,  It was decorated nicely.  It was immaculately clean without the usual smells of a skill nursing facilities or hospital. If felt and looked just like a home. There was only going to be 3 or 4 guests and Mom would have her own room. I took a look at what would be Moms room and could picture Mom living there.

That was in June and now it’s November.
I have never ever regretted having my Mom move to Blue Skies Ranch.

Eilene is so positive, loving, caring and always looking out for my mom as if she was her own mother.  Eliene takes the time to make a special connection with all her patients and their families.

Another “gem” at Blue Skies Ranch is Eilene’s daughter Shannon.  The apple didn’t fall far from the tree…She has the same admirable qualities as Eilene. She is so much help and really makes my mom feel loved and important. The rest of Eilene’s staff is equally as loving and caring.

There are really no words that would do justice to the way Eilene’s runs her Board and Care.  She takes amazing care of all her patients. She makes all her patient feel like they are in their own homes. She keeps her home spotless and smelling so good.  She lets her tenants chime in about meal choices. When she makes meals she even lets my mom help in the kitchen. They play games in the front room. They watch TV together and most important they are able to sit outside and enjoy our beautiful weather here in sunny, California.

I couldn’t be more HAPPY about my moms care and the way my mom feels about living at Blue Skies Ranch.
