A Backcountry campground ~7 mi. up the Mt. Lowe road from The Cobb estate. Accessible by foot or bicycle. Lots of natural gravel on the ground, has old picnic benches, trees for shade, and next to a small seasonal stream bed.
You know, you might make the (strenuous-ish) hike all the way up here and find yourself in the middle of a gaggle of teenagers who'd arrived in a van. That's a good thing. They didn't enjoy the benefit of exercise, accomplishment and feeling of self-sufficiency you're feeling at the moment, but maybe, just maybe, they will take in the wonder of it enough to realize that, next time, they want to do it the way you just did. If someone didn't haul them up here, there'd be no chance at all of that happening, but now some of them might do it. They'll care about nature, the planet and the things that prompted you to make the effort, and we'll have a few more allies in the effort to keep these wonders that we have. The world will be a better place. Celebrate.
It was quite hike to reach this place, but when I got there it was overrun by teenage boys (who had driven in vans) who were running about, throwing things at each other and somewhat spoiling the solitude.
I didn't use the bathrooms, but they existed.
Pass by it. It's a very dry and hot place in summer. But it's close to many peaks nearby
I have done it at least several dozen times and its a wonderful experience its 11 miles round trip pack lots of goodies and specially lots of water. If you go on a warm day good spot for lunch or snack and learn the history of the site respect the wilderness remember you are just a visitor
