Dropped in at this box when in LA for business. Staff and members were very welcoming and encouraging! I love the fact that they have an Olympic Weightlifting class throughout the week. Coaches know there stuff and can help with technique if you need it. I will definitely be back when in LA again. Great job Karma!

I walked into Karma Crossfit injured - bad. My shoulder was terribly messed up and physical therapy made it worse. My amazing doctor (Steve Yoon, Kerlan Jobe) suggested I just get back at it and see what happens. So, I set up a time to meet with Will to get set-up to start working out at Karma. He listened to my story, and asked me to do a ring row. I did - and, evidently, I FAILED. Imagine this, I needed serious help with my form. I did personal training with Will for a while, and through his patience, coaching, knowledge of human physiology and adaptation to my personal tendencies, my shoulder healed. I started taking crossfit classes there, followed Will and Katy's nutrition recommendations, and thus, I am in the best shape I've ever been in. And my form... after all this, I worked out at another Crossfit gym during a work relocation, and the Coach stopped the workout so everybody could watch my form (that was scary - Karma coaches would have found things to help me improve). Speaking of Katy... she is amazing. She heard some other health issues I was having and pointed me to a book about hormone imbalance. I read it and was better able to manage my health - to the point that I needed (and received) some serious hormone therapy. Game changer. Katy also runs some women-specific, non-crossfit classes out of the gym that are amazing. All of the women in these classes are extremely supportive of each other. I highly recommend consulting with Katy if you want to build strength and don't necessarily want to do crossfit (or even if you do). If you do want to do crossfit, you're not going to find better physical and nutritional training anywhere else. While my schedule has really only exposed to Will and Katy, the other coaches here are amazing too! I can't say enough good things about this place. Just go.

If you are looking for a CrossFit gym that has 15+ students in a class, a typical class instructor took up personal training three years ago and you feel like throwing up after most work outs, this is not the gym for you. Karma Crossfit is a boutique gym that offers a very friendly environment with challenging yet personally scaled workouts.

A class typically has 3 to 7 people where you receive personal instruction in a small group environment. The two owners, Will and Katie, combined have thirty years of experience personal training. They are extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of human physiology, strength training, mobility enhancement, gymnastics, traditional Cross Fit workouts and much more.

Each traditional Crossfit class offer three levels of workouts (Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced) so you may scale your workout to your level of experience and fitness. For beginners do not be embarrassed that you don’t know how to lift weights or can’t keep up with the rest of the class. This is the perfect environment to learn.

For women, in particular, who may have only used machines before to lift weights, you will get a whole new experience that I think you will find very empowering. Several women have joined who, for example, had never done a deadlift before (google it) and eventually were deadlifting their weight and one woman twice her weight. If you can’t do a regular push up, you do it from your knees. If you can’t do a regular pull up, you do one jumping or using a band to lessen the weight.

The gym offers specialized classes also like Olympic Lifting, yoga and Crossfit open training; they give talks on such topics as healthful eating, running and mobility; they stream special yoga type stretching workouts and other instructional videos; and they provide all sorts of links to various other sites that offer useful information and additional workouts and specialized instruction,

For me personally, the most important instruction I have received at the gym is learning what techniques to use to become more flexible. When I joined I thought I was there to increase my general fitness and strength; little did I know that lack of flexibility was my biggest issue. A normal person should be able to do an overhead squat where with a bar above your head or even with just your arms, you should be able to squat breaking 90 degrees. I would say at least one-third of men (me included!) can’t do it.

I won’t bore you with the details but let’s just say you come to realize that it is not healthy to lack normal mobility. And if you are too far gone, doing yoga or general stretching won’t get you there until you have worked sufficiently on your body to allow you to do yoga. Very few gyms if any will advise you on your mobility as much as Karma.

Students from local high schools, military types, working professionals, stay at home moms, fat, skinny, weak, strong, 50 and 60+ along with the 20 and 30+… we are all here. Come join the fun and gain a very real sense of accomplishment. From a five year member.
