“I love coming here all the time and just looking at the view up here. The scenery is amazing and there's not a lot of people up here so it's perfect if you just want a peaceful place to be by yourself or friends. There is some wildlife here like deer and snakes, but not much else. It's also a fun place to mountain bike. It's not challenging and there are a few hills to keep the heart rate up for both runners and cyclists.”

Hellman Park Trailhead

Address: 5700 Greenleaf Ave, Whittier, CA 90601, USA

Park

“Hellman is my local hike/trail and i am so grateful that it’s so close to home. Today i came with a friend and we arrived at 8:40am so we could get good parking. The park ranger opened the gates at 8:50am and we were able to go right in. Be aware that the parking for the hike is extremely limited and you are unable to park on the streets next to the entrance due to required permits. So arrive early if you want to make sure you get a spot. If you don’t, you will have to park a little far from the trail. There are several routes you can take while doing this hike. One is typically the harder than the other which is nice because you can change routes as you go. On a clear day the view from the top is spectacular!”

Sycamore Canyon Trailhead

Address: 5040 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, CA 90601, USA

Park

“This is by far the best trail for bush hiding. It's great fun to see people's reactions. All you need is a little dust to rub on yourself and practice the glaze-eyed stare. Just be sure to do your performances a way down the trail, by the stream. That will ensure the pesky ranger won't disturb you, as they only venture a few hundred yards down the trail.”

Penn Park

Address: 13900 Penn St, Whittier, CA 90602, USA

Park

“Life has been a little difficult for me and lately I’ve been trying to find places to help me relax. I found that coming to this peaceful little park has helped me on some of my toughest days. It’s quite lovely. The scenery is well known and many people even come to have their wedding photos taken here. There’s plenty of trees that provide shade so i typically bring a blanket and lay under a tree to get some fresh air.”
