  A beautiful bird reserve with plenty of walking trails and several ponds for bird watching. Lots of parking and access to facilities for picnicking.

  What a wondrous place. The first pond to the right was filled with wildlife. A short walk gave us shots of several hummingbirds, two black crowned night herons and again, several species of waterfowl. We will return soon.

  Great walking paths. Took the kids, and they had a great time bird watching.

  Beautiful space and can be very educational as well. Entrance is free, and they offer free tours. Because it is a wildlife sanctuary, sadly, dogs are not allowed.

  This place is a hidden gem. Lots of interesting water birds to see, ample parking, and a good picnic area. It's open dawn to dusk every day. There is a grill but it's only available to people who have reserved the nearby Duck Club meeting room (which is free to IRWD customers and nonprofits).
  
  The trails have long stretches without much scenery so small children might get bored on the longer trails, but there are plenty of bird boxes and observation points where you can look out over the water.
  
  Check before you go what kinds of birds might be there at the time of year and what times of day they're around, because if you go at the wrong time there might not be very much to see.

The IRWD San Joaquin Marsh & Wildlife Sanctuary is a place for all to enjoy the beauty of nature. Visitors can walk along 12 miles of trails, watch the more than 200 bird species that visit the marsh, take photographs or simply relax under a native willow and listen to the sounds of nature.
