  My husband and I have had the privilege of training with Gene for about 10 months now, and he is the real thing. It is a huge privilege to be able to learn from a teacher of his caliber. He makes it absolutely fascinating, and the art itself is extremely rewarding. Tai Chi, and Gene's particular style and persona, has been one of the absolute best things about 2017. Absolutely psyched to move into another year of training. It just keeps getting cooler.

  I accidentally stumbled upon the Golden School of Tai Chi when looking for a house. Having studied before in San Francisco and New York, I had to sign-up for a class. I was surprised to find a Tai Chi School in Orange County and further surprised with the quality of the instruction. I guess when the student is ready the teacher appears. Gene is rare find, one of the few instructors spread across the country trained directly by the best masters. I studied with Gene now for over a year and I have to say that tai chi is the hardest thing I ever did because you not only learn the outward form which is relatively easy but what is hard is the change from the inside that not only improves the outward form but is applicable in dealing with all aspects of work, play and self-defense. My inner potential was cracked open by the teaching style of Gene. I had many transformations over the year and gained the self-confidence and compassion to handle many situations at work, in relationships and in certain neighborhoods in LA with the help of tai chi learned from Gene. Even when I am surfing or swimming, a teaching from Gene will cross my mind and have successful application. His teaching style is unique, he embodies Bruce Lee’s “Be like water” with a strong philosophical, spiritual component that packs a strong punch.

  If Tai Chi was only a routine system for relaxation and meditation, I would have no interest in learning it. Once I learned that Tai Chi was originally suppose to have combat and self defense applications, I started searching for the best Tai Chi Chuan teacher in Orange County. I saw a couple of great reviews for Gene on Yelp and decided to try out a few sessions with him. I am very pleased to say that I am extremely grateful to have discovered someone like Gene! I work out pretty regularly and vigorously and even then I was no match for him in combat. The guy has so much knowledge, a lot of patience, and is a fantastic teacher!

  I had the privilege to study Tai Chi with Sifu Gene Golden for about two years and if I hadn't relocated out of the area I'd still be studying with him now. As an instructor, Gene is eager to pass on the knowledge he has accrued over decades as a Tai Chi practitioner and is extremely patient when, as often happened in my case, the student fails to grasp and / or embody the concept under discussion. He is also able to demonstrate the practical applications of the Tai Chi to both combative and non-combative situations. On one hand, those whose concept of Tai Chi is limited to slow moving elderly people in parks, its martial applications might well be shocking. On the other hand, some the most eye opening sessions involved Gene discussing Tai Chi's relevance to events and relationships in the workplace or in other non-combative (at least physically) situations. I consider the time I spent studying with Gene to be more than worthwhile and I can't imagine a better guide for one's study of Tai Chi.

  Master Golden, not only showed me the form; but unknowingly taught me about life. He taught me Balance. He showed me understanding. Not only about movement, and energy, but of the balance in myself. I've acquired understanding of others, and nature as a whole.
  Some instructors, just teach form. Sifu, helps you understand the movements. He is always there, encouraging, never judging.
  23 years later and now, thousands of miles away; and Sifu, is still a part of my life.
  There are many paths, in this life; but only one Master Gene Golden. You can take a path, or the Golden road.
  If you are considering Tai Chi Chuan. You can do no better than Master Gene Golden, and the Golden school of Tai Chi Chuan.
