Took this trail to Picnic Rock. 1 1/2 miles one way. There is a fork 1 1/4 miles in. Turn left to go to Picnic Rick, straight for Griff trail. A sign is there to point the way. It is an easy path, but does ascend continuously the entire way. Nothing technical, but unless you hike at altitude regularly, it will give you a mild cardio workout. View is worth the effort. Stopping numerous times to take pics, it took about 50 minutes to the top.
Very touristy trailhead with most people hiking up to the first summit about 1.2 miles in and turning back around, but if you keep going it levels out and gets less rocky and turns into a beautiful and less crowded trail (but you lose the view a bit). Parking is a challenge on a weekend and a little dangerous because there is no cross walk to get to the other side of the 267.
The Brockway Summit allows for easy access to the Tahoe Rim Trail and Picnic Rock. Picnic Rock is a great destination to hike to that is fairly easy to access and offers great views of North Lake Tahoe and the lake. The hike is fairly easy and only about 3/4 of a mile or less up to the viewpoint from the parking area.
If I weren't moving away from here, I would most definitely go hiking here four or five times a year. It is worth the drive and the views. If you go hiking here in the winter make sure to have durable snow boots, trekking poles, and a hydration pack. Go hiking here only if the snow isn't too deep. I start off parking my car across the road in the lot adjacent to the trail and head across and up the hill to the left. There is plenty of signage to keep you on the trail. Beautiful year round!
Peaceful, excellent view of the Lake. Shortest hike, best bang for your buck. Went with friends for the sunset. Can get crowded in the weekend, but still worth it. Steep uphill going up, 1.5 each way.
