My go-to running place. Love that the officers have been there a lot in the last few years, I'm guessing mostly to protect the governor, but it is nice to know they are there. I feel safe and the workout area is nice. Great for trail running and hills. 1 mile down the paved bike trail is the sunrise footbridge. Lots of people fish there and hang out at the water.
Always a police presence. No junkies. No junkie trash. A wonderful clean place to enjoy with your family. River access and great hiking.
Bannister Park was amazing and the San Juan trail is equally impressive. I could spend a week here and still not see all the twists and turns hiding in this unique, hilly landscape.
The fact that this is only a 15 minute drive from my home makes it that much more enjoyable. If you love nature, and you haven't had the chance to visit, put this Bannister Park on your list.
Beautiful park with a very long bike trail. It consists of a large green lawn and a small exercise area. Overall it's a great place for playing games/sports and family hangouts. It's a very recreational park.
Bannister Park has limited parking, but if you get in you have free access to the American River Bike Trail and River access if you take the bike path (or several hiking paths) down to the river.
Not an ideal location to "put in" for tubes, kayaks, or other river fun. Use the Upper or Lower Sunrise lots for this (Fees apply)
Has an adjacent soccer field, picnic spots, bathrooms, and body weight gym.
Gates close at sundown, so don't stay too late or you'll be paying more than you'd like for your visit!
