Tom is a legend and is my go to for custom ski boots, latest equipment and his years of industry knowledge. My wife initially found Tom for the both of us and it’s made a major difference in our ability and safety on the slopes. Thank you Tom for always making time for us and making sure we are equipped properly!

My review is about 3 years late but got to show the google review some love. Tom is great! Amazing! Spectacular! I haven't skied in ages
because these big ol calf's just don't fit in standard rental ski boots. One day as I was driving down the road I see custom boots so I had to test my luck. Get there and Tom was so kind measured my feet and cracked jokes along the way. Told me it wouldn't be worth it to get customs and showed me better options and I am thankful for that. Thanks to him I'll be sending all my big calf people
    towards him.

If you are in the market for new ski boots and/or want to take your skiing to the next level, then I highly recommend you work with Tom.

The last several times I’ve skied, I was noticing that no matter how hard I tried to focus my attention on it, I couldn’t get into a more aggressive stance in the steeps. I was also having issues with my toes freezing and getting into the back seat too much was causing the big toenail to occasionally get bruised. Even more frustrating was that I felt like the movements in my foot/ankle weren’t translating to the ski which resulted in me working too hard to turn the skis. The liners of my boots were packed out and my foot was sliding around. Finally, last season I was discussing this with my children’s ski instructor and she highly recommended that I look into getting custom boots including an insert behind the calf that would help. I was ready to pull the trigger on a pair of custom boots with heaters from Surefoot - not knowing any other options since we don’t live in a ski town.

Just prior to driving up to Surefoot in Los Angeles, I decided to do a quick internet search to see what my options were in the Orange County area. That’s how I found Tom. I gave him a call and after talking with him over the phone about what I was looking for, made an appointment for a fitting.

At the fitting, Tom spent at least 2 hours with me. He analyzes the shape of your foot and alignment, selects the boot and then heats up the liner to get a custom fit, adds an orthotic if necessary, checks alignment again and then tweaks the fit as needed.

Even more importantly is that he guarantees the fit. After the initial fit, I skied a weekend and found that I was having a pressure point on the outside of my left foot (I have a very wide forefoot). Went back to Tom and he spent probably another 1-2 hours with me reshaping the shell and working on the liner.

Despite that pressure point, I could immediately tell how having the custom fit translated into my skiing. I wasn’t working as hard to turn the skis and I wasn’t getting in the backseat. AND my feet were no longer cold even though I didn’t have boot heaters.

This season, for some reason, I developed a pressure point on the inside ankle which was really uncomfortable. Called Tom and after assessing the situation, he spent another 2 hours fitting me for a new boot. He was just as thorough, patient and professional as the first time.

As others have said, Tom is extremely knowledgeable about the industry - he is a passionate skier himself (one of the original Aspen ski bums back in the day!). His love of the sport shows through in his work.

Give it a try, you won’t be sorry you did. The only big downside for me was that he has since moved from Anaheim Hills to Big Bear so I recently had to make the 2 hour drive for the adjustment. Having said that, it was a beautiful day and I enjoyed the excuse to get up into the mountains. Considering how much time and money we already spend to go skiing, a custom well-fitting pair of boots is well worth the investment!

Tom is THE guy, the man, boot fitter extraordinaire! Tom can talk, but thats ok because you will learn a thing or two about all things ski. About to buy X brand of binding? He will tell you if X is currently making good stuff, or if they changed to a Milesian supplier and are having problems with their heel springs. Tom changed skiing for my wife, so I had him build me some boots. Then he built my mom a pair.

I ski the boots Tom built for me everywhere; backcountry, inbounds, boot packing a 45 degree ice chute with crampons....you name it. They are unbelievably dialed. I am riding the ROXA R3 130 TI IR with a freetour tongue. Great ROM, super stiff, and thanks to Tom, super comfortable. Stay away from the popular OC ski shop, especially for boots. Tom is better than Surefoot, better than any place I have dropped into in Mammoth. He knows what he is doing. Grab some custom cork soles, get your boots canted properly, get the type of boot appropriate for your ability and terrain, and get it all from Tom Wohrman. Because once Tom retires....and I hope that is never, but once he does...one of the very last last great boot fitters will be gone and you will have missed your chance for that elusive pair of perfect boots.
