Amazing hike! I couldnt find the Hole in the wall trailhead (left of the visitors center) so I did the Barber Peak Loop Trail (6 miles). Super long and so parts don’t have a marker. I kept going straight and stayed “close” to the rocks. I saw cows on the trail and you can also bring horses. On my way back I almost took the hoop trail back but I went into the canyon instead. Great hike took me about 2.5 hours
I camped here over 30 years ago. It was great to return. Our night was very quiet, the stars were gorgeous. There was lightning in the sky towards Vegas. In the middle of the night, the winds really picked up! Be sure to hike the Ring Trail!
I forced mom to take an excursion into the Mojave Desert to a small ranger's hut powered by solar power! We saw chipmunks, lizards, and a snake. We wanted to get the passport stamp and sticker, which we did since we arrived during working hours. The ranger only accepted credit or debit cards.
Great little isolated campground (35+ sites) with pit toilets, water, tables, & fire pits.. There's 2 tent only sites (T1 & T2) at the end of the loop that are fantastic. They definitely keep you away from other campers and the views are great. Highly recommend it!
I kind of wandered into this place on my way to the Joshua Tree NP. It was a sunny day, not many visitors. The information center was manned by a single ranger. I took to the ring loop trail, which was a one-mile moderately easy hike. The Mojave desert definitely has lots of wonders hidden in it. This is one of them.
