  The first owners of Sunrise Mkt. Was named the Wilfongs who were avid hunters who displayed stuffed animals in the store as well as live monkeys in a cage on the side of the store, second owners were the Lindsay's. North Fontana was mainly people of color (blacks) lived above baseline ave. Sunrise market, a gas station and few other stores and churches was the hub of that area from late 1950s-90s, around 1969 North Fontana park was built where A many of black history events were formed such as Easter egg hunts, parades,pageants and sporting tournaments. Where Highland and Catawba Aves. Met was the hub for the community called, ( the tracks ) which had unity, pride and love for one another even til present day.

  I'm 28 yrs old, I've lived down the street from this lil liquor store my whole life. I remember when everything north around it was all field. No new homes and specially no 210 freeway , just a lil park in the middle of no where named " jessie turner" then that was knocked down and rebuilt in the summit areas. Ghetto as can be, drugs and gangs where kings during that time in that area, very dangerous at night. Alot has changed, one of the owners passed away since, the lil Asian lady still owns the place and works it with her 2 sons.. The building used to be a hotel more than 30yrs ago.

  Oh the fond memories, playing street fighter and Heavy Barrel with every quarter I could find. The owners where always great to us.
