Mid-January, 2019 the temps were in the mid 60s and absolutely perfect for hiking! With the village of Mt Baldy at the base of the canyon, you see quite a bit of hikers along the way and all of them friendly, happily enjoying the scenery nature has to offer. Bear flat is just a quick 1.5 miles up switchback path mostly following the creek meandering down the canyon floor. There's plenty to see along the way, including some really cool cottages. Once you get up high and east enough, breathtaking views of the metro area begin to appear.

No bears were seen. Disappointing.
