The place is awesome and it’s worth hiking to the oasis and just keep some insect repellent with you..
We love, love Anza Borrego and this campsite is on the northern side of the State Park, on the eastern side of Borrego Spring. The entire state park offers open camping (seriously) but sometimes it’s nice to have the amenities and comradery of a campsite. Full-hook up with pull-through, basic, group sites are available. There is an out-and-back hike to a palm tree ‘oasis’ to the north west of the campsites. There is a guided tour through the hike (via tri-fold brochure) and incredible geography all around, but oasis in this case means 15 or so palm trees in a valley between two mountains.. still worth seeing! Wildlife sightings included a big horn sheep that seemed very tame. This place is my un-Joshua Tree and I almost don’t want to tell you about it to keep it under the radar, but... here it is. This is the location of the most epic meteor I’ve ever witnessed. From horizon to breaking apart into five smaller pieces burning up in the atmosphere, wow! The town of Borrego Springs is an Dark Sky Community but if you want it really dark you have to open camp in the park. Wildflowers in the spring, huge metal art installations to hunt around for, shops and food stores in town, and an informative visitor center. Go to the RED gas station and buy your firewood from the two kids across the street after you fill up to save a few bucks. Clean bathrooms, helpful rangers, things to do, shooting stars.. we’re coming back, hope I don’t see you there!
Beautiful as usual this time of year. Still lots of flowers. Be sure to check the detailed weather report before you go tent camping. We had 20 mph sustained winds with 30-40 mph gusts for about 24 hours. It was challenging to say the least.
Great location! Beautiful night sky! Campground was clean and organized. Full hook ups and pull through made for co.plete comfort!
