  Out of all the things in my life I have researched; surgeons, home loans, insurances, vehicles, etc..., I have never researched something as much as a home to settle my father in. It's one of the single most important decisions I have made in my life. After several months and over 25 plus visits to various senior living facilities, I made the decision to go with Sienna and I have without a doubt made the right decision. The care and effort displayed by the staff is genuine.

  Our father has been living at Sienna in the Memory Care area for the last 8 months. We toured many facilities, looking specifically for a new home in which he could bring his cat. We are so pleased at our decision to move dad to Sienna. Both the cat and our father have adjusted well to this new home.
  First of all it’s a beautiful facility, open and spacious with courtyards for enjoying the outdoors and gardening activities.
  But, the absolute best aspect of Sienna are the employees and staff. They are so friendly and helpful. The care givers that provide daily care for our father are kind and respectful to him. They know his specific likes and dislikes and go out of their way to please him and get him to smile or participate in an activity. The atmosphere is calm and each resident is treated with dignity and the knowledge of his/ her specific needs and preferences.
  I believe that the kindness from dad’s caregivers and the connection he continues to have with his cat provide comfort and contentment for this chapter in his life.

  Both my parents reside at Sienna; they were some of the first to move in. They reside in the memory care unit and are thriving. Besides being a beautiful facility it is staffed with the most caring and knowledgeable people I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet. My parents are treated with utmost respect and caring love which they extend to family as well. It is plain to see that the staff love their jobs AND the residents. They joke with them, read to them, play games and do puzzles with them, sit with them in the patio, do gardening with them, dance with them; life is not dull at Sienna. All this in addition to taking care of their physical needs.

  In my culture, it is not a common practice to place elderly parents in a care facility. However, my father's Parkinson's and related dementia were actively progressing. My father had reached a stage of over-medicating himself which exacerbated his symptoms. His gait became more unsteady, unbalanced, and he was a constant fall risk; he began hallucinating; his tremors worsened; he refused to eat; his sleep was nonexistent, and he was in a state of constant confusion. As his primary caretaker, I was beyond overwhelmed and exhausted. I could no longer provide the type of care he required. For his own personal safety and for the sake of my sanity and well-being, I decided to look for an alternate living arrangement.
  I began a desperate search for a placement in the south bay area. I visited residential boarding homes, received quotes for in-home care, and took endless tours of assisted living facilities with memory care units. A majority of the places I visited had very bleak, uninviting atmospheres; smelled of urine; and/or didn't seem to be well managed , organized, or staffed. Conversely, there were places that were ideal in terms of what I wanted, but the levels of pricing far surpassed my budget. It was a very eye-opening experience. I wanted quality care but this seemed directly correlated with high cost and I felt doomed to make difficult decisions at the expense of my father's comfort.
  Then I discovered Sienna at Otay Ranch. This assisted living facility is new and is set in a residential neighborhood in east Chula Vista. The facility is spacious; open and airy; and has the most welcoming atmosphere. The resident's rooms (private and semi-private) are clean, well-maintained, and designed with elder care in mind. Some of the amenities in the memory care unit include: housekeeping, laundry services, prepared meals/snacks, medication disbursement, assistance with hygiene needs, and access to an array of supervised social activities. More so, their determining cost for patient care is based on a point system as opposed to levels. However, the true deciding factor in placing my father at Sienna were the amazing employees. Ron (Executive Director) and Ruby (Memory Care Director) along with their support staff are excellent in their field of geriatric care. All staff have far exceeded my expectations in terms of being truly invested in my father's physical, mental, and emotional well being. I have since returned to my role as a "daughter" instead of a "caretaker" and I can now rest assured knowing my father's remaining time on this earth will be surrounded by people that are kind, warm, and genuine. I am truly filled with gratitude for Sienna's services and their collaborative approach to care.
