Many years ago (1974-1980 time frame), I cared for one of the Sisters at SCRIPPS Hospital LJ. Being a meditator, they graciously invited me to meditate in their chapel. I could hear their chanting, like angels singing nearby. And we visited couple times in their St. Teresa designed visiting rooms, which I ‘d never experienced before but was fascinated with, having read of this dear Saint many times. Doubt any of the nuns are still there whom I met so long ago. But I treasure my time with them. Also wonder if they still raise birds and I believe practiced chemistry to help support their Convent? I’m a retired nurse now, but hold the sweet Sisters always in my heart and prayers. Next time I’m in the area, I will again ask to meditate in that beautiful church. Thank you all for your work and prayers.🙏🪷
My husband, Tom, and I have spoken to several of the Catholic Nuns at the Carmelite Monastery in Normal Heights of San Diego, California and have always found each and every one of them, extremely uplifting to speak with. The grounds outside of the Monastery are also beautifully kept with fragrant 🌹 roses and other lovely flowers 💐. We have found great peace at this wonferful place, which is thoughtfully & carefully looked after by these kind and special human beings ♡.
One of the few places for hundreds of miles where you feel the holiness of God. Serene, tranquil, and well built, the monastery stands out like a bastion of olden days, reminding us that God is ever near. Liturgy with the sisters is very satisfying and their voices and hearts beckon one to heights that can't go unheeded. I recommend their Sunday 4 p.m. mass with evening prayer, as you get to hear their angelic voices draw you in deeper with Jesus.
It's a monastery, what could you say bad about it? As neighbors, they are quiet, don't chat you up when you are in a hurry, and there are no loud parties...ever.
Just a bunch of holy dudes being holy. And best of all, they are low fat. Get it? Low fat...Carmel "lite"...anyone, anyone?
Beautiful monastery tucked away in the Normal Heights neighborhood of San Diego.
Expertly maintained grounds and flowers. Architecturally significant building and charming bell tolls.
Hope to see instead one day.
