Dr. Schultzel surgically repaired my right rotator cuff in June (2019). I had completely torn two of the four muscles. It is now late September and I have been released to most of my pre-surgery activities. Dr. Schultzel provided excellent care throughout the process, from diagnosis to post-op care. I highly recommend him to anyone needing repair of an injured shoulder or elbow. I really wish Kaiser would hire more doctors like him!!

I feel incredibly lucky to have had Dr Schultzel as my surgeon following a fall which resulted in a fractured left shoulder. I suffered for months hoping my shoulder would heal. I was very fearful of surgery. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Dr Schultzel performed a reverse shoulder replacement with great success. Minimal pain and excellent follow up resulted in my getting my life back. After 4 months post op I have excellent range of motion no pain and can enjoy an active life again. Thank you Dr Schultzel.

I normally do not write reviews, yet I have to for Dr. Schultzel. Having been severely injured as a child, I have had my fair experience with doctors. Dr. Schultzel is one of the most clinically competent and human Doctors I have ever had the fortune to be treated by. When I moved to San Diego County 2 years ago I was in the middle of getting a rotator cup repair, Dr. Schultzel started communicating with my doctor in SF before I got here and really smoothed the red tape to transfer surgeons. When I met him he put me at ease and cared more than just about the surgery, but wanted to get to know me, my lifestyle as an athlete and generally as a person. He also made sure I received recommendations for general med doctors, since I was new to area. The rotator cup turned out to also be a bicep tendon tear and the surgery and after care were a success. I have full function today. He is very cautions about rehab and follows you past the OR. Recently I had an issue with my knee. I was referred to an orthopedic surgeon in his group who basically wasn’t interested in treating me. I got a second opinion appointment with Schultzel and he took the time and attention to explain to me what my knee was doing and what I needed to get back to full activity. He also took the time to help me with pt and preventative measures to avoid surgery on my other shoulder. The essential thing about him is that he wants to know what you want and how he can help you get there. I consider him to be the example of what a surgeon should be. He looks at the well being of the mind/body/spirit of the patient.

If I could give more stars in this review, I would. Dr. Mark Schultzel is not only an amazing surgeon, who is knowledgeable and highly skilled in his field, but he has wonderful bedside manners. Many doctors are good at their practice but lack the soft skills that also matter for trust and recovery. I am happy to share that that is not the case of Dr. Schultzel as he is also an incredible caring, patient, compassionate, and a friendly doctor. He performed a very difficult full reverse reconstructive surgery on my husband's completely shattered right shoulder and the recovery has been amazing. In fact, his recovery from the shoulder has been faster and better than the other surgeries he had after suffering a horrible motorcycle accident. Thanks to Dr. Schultzel's care, and that of his team, he has been able to recover almost 100% (it has only been 7 months). I would highly recommend him to anyone who needs an Orthopedic surgeon, particularly for the shoulder. Thank you so much Dr. Schultzel for everything. We truly appreciate you, the Castanon's

Having arrived in the ER with a shattered shoulder, I was fortunate to have Dr. Mark Schultze as my orthopedic surgeon. He not only repaired my broken 78 year old bones, but he expertly implanted a new joint replacement. And not only is he a skilled surgeon, he is engaging, interesting and compassionate.

My only regret is that I have to wait one year to see him again.I have no physical problems and am very pleased with him and the exceptional care I received at Kaiser, Zion.
