Authentic Stage couch stop museum. Docent was very knowledgeable about all historical information. Plenty of parking. This property is still on a functioning cattle ranch.

It is not just this structure. The history is ...well...the history of California.

This place is really cool. I stopped by on a whim driving from the San Diego area to Arizona this past weekend, and do not regret it at all. I got a really cool tour and history of the place. Highly recommend a visit, especially paired with other stuff in the San Diego and Imperial county deserts. Spent about an hour here.

If you love history, this is a great place to go. I visit a handful of times out of the year and can always learn something new. As another reviewer mention, their staff is very knowledgeable. And they always seem willing to still learn and share. And they link other historical places or people to the area. There's a small fee, which goes to help them out. There is also an active ranch on the larger immediate surrounding property. If you get the chance, visit Vallecito stage stop, out in Anza Borrego State Park, which is a stage stop historically connected to this one.

Northeastern San Diego County is a well known best-kept secret. It's a land of a wide variety of scenery, much of it remaining in its natural conditions. This part of California has a long history dating to the earliest Spanish Missionaries who first documented their explorations .

Heading south on Highway 79 from Temecula, or east on 76 from Oceanside or its intersection at I-15, you pass from modern to primitive within a few miles.

The Warner-Carillo Ranch remains a large acreage cattle operation. The historic house and other ranch buildings provide a glimpse of the "early days" of Southern California, including the US Mail service provided by the Butterfield Overland Stage service.

There are other Stage Stations in the area, including the Oak Grove Station, that have been preserved and even rebuilt to ensure their stories continue.

Several places to stay also are nearby. Take a day or two, perhaps camping or staying in a motel. You'll get out of it what you put into your visit.
