I have never written a review before, but there is no way I can go on without making sure that because of this it will help someone someday.

Let me start off simply by saying that THIS is without a doubt the school to attend if you want to be an actor. It is completely incredible in every way. Not only did it help me learn what it truly takes to be an actor and provide me with the knowledge to tackle this dream, but it also changed my life personally. The amount of growing that one will go through while attending this school is indescribable. I can assure anyone that if you are serious about being an actor, this is the place for you.

Jim is definitely the teacher you are looking for if you are passionate and dedicated about this. He has continued the legacy of Sanford Meisner flawlessly. You will be pushed to grow and held to a standard that will help you in pursuit of this dream, all in the best possible way of course! He is as passionate about acting as he is about helping his students be a force to be reckoned with. You will not be let down at all throughout the entirety of the training.

I've completed the formal 2 year training and there is an optional business class afterwards. I was lucky enough to take and recently complete this class with both Jim and Kyla, his daughter, who has a ridiculous wealth of knowledge about the industry given her background. I can say that I'm more than ready to tackle anything that comes my way in the acting world! Not only was the training an absolute gift in and of itself, but the bonds that I have made through this school and its community are an amazing bonus. I have an artistic family for life, and I treasure all of these people very dearly.

I just want to end by saying to anyone reading this who is thinking about attending. Yes, it is scary to go through 2 years worth of training. Will it be difficult? Yes. Will it test your limits? Yes. Trust when I say, have patience and it is all more than worth it. You won't believe where you'll be when you have finished!

This school and Jim Jarrett are the most incredible place to learn and teacher to lear from. This place has changed my life unequivocally and I could not recommend it more!!

I'm truly grateful for The Meisner Technique Studio. This place is truly special to me. And has been the artistic home where I've had the opportunity to hone an advanced craft of acting focused on balance, community, health and well-being. At the Meisner Technique Studio I grew into my craft under the care and guidance of Jim Jarrett and Melissa Thompson Esaia. Together Jim and Melissa worked hard to understand my instrument. And imparted the tools that I needed to learn as an actor and person in order grow into a rock solid foundation with the Meisner Technique. A foundation that now allows for me to know how to prepare and go to work on a project, make quick choices, and honor the truth within the stories I'm invited to tell. I'm truly grateful to both Jim and Melissa for raising me up and helping me learn in this safe and supportive environment. Thank you for helping me to grow, learn and have fun on my journey!

    Life changing.

There are not enough stars to represent how INCREDIBLE this studio is. If you are looking to become a better actor, writer, director, film making and person―look no further.

I tip-toed into acting after pursuing writing for many years. I graduated from an MFA program in Southern California and left my writing community the moment I moved to the Bay Area. I was trying to find other creatives. I enrolled in some sketch comedy writing classes and improv, but between the teachers and the lack of effort or care from the students, I wasted time and money.
I was interested in finding a group of creatives in the bay area. No dilettantes, but passionate artists who were going to push me and make me better. I had looked up “the best acting schools in San Francisco” and landed on the The Meisner Technique studio. After reading numerous reviews, each one praising the integrity of the instructors as well as the life changing experiences the students had, I knew that I had found the perfect place to grow into my dream.

From the moment I had my interview with Jim I knew right away that I had found my teacher. When I enrolled at the studio, I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into. I had no idea what I was doing, if I had any business looking into acting and where it all would lead. My how that changed. I was bit by the acting bug and every single class I’d drive home feeling so passionate about what I was doing. I worked hard. I poured everything I had into the training and I regret nothing. Those that knew me during this training would always ask about “my acting” because they could feel the passion inside of me. To be honest, this training was more intense than my Masters program (and that was tough as hell!) You get what you give and my class put in the work. It was beautiful to watch my classmates blossom into these sensitive, powerful, moment to moment, working from gut machines. My class became my second family. We were all there to support each other and lift each other up. The studio supports a healthy environment for learning and growing. It was such a safe place for artistic expression.

I feel incredibly blessed and honored that I was able to study with Jim Jarrett and Melissa Thompson Esaia and grow as an actor. When I first started studying, I didn’t think I could ever have the audacity to pursue acting as a career path. After two years, I can confidently say that I feel like I have a rock solid foundation to go after my dream. If you study here, you will leave with craft. You will hone in on your skills and discover what makes you so unique. You will realize that being an actor is a noble profession and to express humanity is sacred.

Sanford Meisner was a genius. His technique evolves and grows into this unbelievable ride. Each session you learn a new skill. Brick by brick you build a foundation in the craft and by the end of the journey you will not BELIEVE how far you came. Jim Jarrett was the last teaching protege of Sandy. He stays 1000% true to Sandy’s teachings and withholds the same standards. This is not a place to be casual. You study here to become an acting warrior!

Two years later, my love for the school and the technique has only grown. I am in the business class which is taught by Jim and his incredibly talented daughter Kyla Jarrett. Through this class you are exposed to how to practically go after this dream because knowing how to get work is the idea here! The price of the studio is so worth every freaking cent. The amount of knowledge, time and help you receive on your journey is immeasurable.

& one more thing....there are so many FUN events like the 24 HR Film Festival, The Sanford Meisner Film Festival, The Oscar Party (costume content), Talent Shows, Studio showcase, guest speakers and MORE.

The Meisner Technique studio has helped me become a fuller version of myself in “real life.” I cannot express enough gratitude for my teacher Jim, Melissa and Kyla and of course Sandy. I could go on and on. From the bottom of my heart, thank you thank you thank you!

I studied at the Meisner Technique Studio for 2yrs, and graduated in April 2016. OMG. I wish had had found out about this school when I first started acting. I moved to the bay area in 2013, after spending the last 6 years performing professionally in plays, sketch-comedy, and improv in Chicago. Being in a new city, I decided to take some time for myself and get back to training, and I feel so lucky to have found the this studio.

Jim and Melissa took my acting to levels I couldn't have imagined possible. I've never felt more free, connected, working moment-to-moment with my scene partners, than I did working and growing at this studio. I took acting classes, improv classes, you name it all over Chicago, and nothing was as thorough or step-by-step (brick-by-brick as Jim would say!) as the training they presented over the course of 2 years. They also gave me tons of new tools to build earned characters with depth, and ways of accessing and growing my imagination to serve the imaginary circumstances of a script.

There are tons of schools our there claiming to teach "meisner" technique (I studied at three such studios in Chicago where I grew, but felt like I was only scratching the surface of what we were doing) but none of did justice to the full-two year professional training as Sanford Meisner taught and intended it. I feel really lucky that Jim continues Sandy's legacy by presenting this training class-by-class as it was taught to him.

If you're committed to your acting career, and want to grow as a person and an artist, do yourself a favor and interview at this school! :)

The Meisner Technique. To be an interesting actor - hell, to be an interesting human being - you must be authentic and for you to be authentic you must embrace who you really are, warts and all. Do you have any idea how liberating it is to not care what people think about you?
