We always come here when we are in San Francisco. My wife discovered she likes monkfish liver because of this restaurant. Very small but a lovely place.
Cute place. Friendly and courteous staff. Amazing food.
Setting:
It's a pretty small space and seems to be often fully booked during dinner, even in the middle of the week.
Dishes:
9 piece sashimi which included Aji (Horse mackerel), Kampachi (Longfin Yellowtail), Salmon, and Tuna. Quality ranks among the top sashimi I've had in the U.S. The wasabi was real.
Oboro Tofu which they make from soybeans they grow themselves.
Daily specials of Miso Black Cod and Walnut Miso Eggplant. The Cod was extremely tender and could be easily cut with chopsticks. The eggplant was also very delicious and had the feeling of eating a mini cake.
Kyoto style mochi ice cream w/ red bean drizzle and a light crepe.
Cozy spot for authentic Japanese food that's worth the wait! I recommend ordering off the "Today's Specials" menu.
This is one of those elusive "hidden gems" that only local knows about. Eiji is a small piece of Japan close to Castro and Duboce. The sushi is phenomenal, tuna is top notch, and there are daily/weekly specials. You won't get a show as you might expect from top sushi restaurants or some other high-end places in San-Francisco, but it's one of the best in SF for sure. The restaurant is tiny (about ~15 seats), and as you can't make a reservation online, people will usually wait outside or in the small waiting area. But, as you are reading this review, here is a tip - You can easily reserve a seat if you call (give them at least one hour in advance).
Sake is excellent; sushi is fantastic, gyoza is tender - Keep this place a secret! The waiting line is already getting too long :)
Love this Japanese joint! It used to be my favorite but the wait was long. Surprisingly on a Friday night, the wait wasn't bad at all. Love their fresh tofu, black cod and desserts!
