Absolutely awe inspiring and breathtaking. Worth the little hike. Dress warm. The docents are so nice and knowledgeable. So much wildlife to enjoy -- watch your step! I almost stepped on a garter snake!

Wow! Worth the 30-40 minute walk from the parking lot and the 10$ fee per car. We came across the nicest people here across all the parks in the west USA! All the people we came across wero so nice and we clearly saw how they love what they do! Some of them were volunteers and they also gave us amazing and detailed presentations about the seals! Me and my girlfriend would definitely come back here again. Very lovely place. This park should be proud of their people! Especially Gus (in the Barn) and Mary at the beach! You made our day!

Fantastic place for both adults and kids to learn about marine life. The beaches are loaded with 4 different types of Seals. Volunteers are friendly and live to explain the habitat and animal habits. They visit twice a year. Beautiful sceneries for Nature lovers, Photographers and painters. There is a small walk (1.5 mi easy for kids and adults) from the parking lot. A remote historical building in the middle of the ocean (not accessible to public) used as research facility is visible from this beach. Seems that these were used by lighthouse keepers. There is a marine mammal research site also. Kids may love to buy stuff from the gift shop.

Amazing local opportunity to see elephant seals close up! For those who are concerned, this hike requires significant walking, some of it over loose sand, but it is so worth it. I took several tours this spring, and I learned something new from the docents every time. The elephant seals are truly amazing animals, and it's a treat to have the opportunity to see their behavior close up. Come at different times between December and March to see different behaviors and stages of the pup's development.

You can book a tour online (recommended for Friday and the weekends, as they fill up), or you can call/ask for the next open tour at the guard gate as you drive in.

I came here to see the elephant seals. The elephant seals are protected here and you can only go when you have registered to go on a tour with one of their official docents. The cost of the tour can be verified on their website.

The tour lasted roughly an hour and a half I believe. But we got to go see them on the beach. We stood in a roped-off area and they were adamant that we follow the instructions of the docent or else we would have to turn around and go back. elephant seals are very large and they actually move quite fast to defend their territory. So we actually had some kids and and their parents who we're not watching the kids and the kids cannot follow instructions and stay with a group. We were warned several times by the docent that we might have to end at or because the parents were not paying attention to their children. So it's kind of important that if you're going to sign up for this that your kids are able to do the long walk and follow the instructions for their personal safety.

The experience was very unique because they were so close up. We actually saw some males fighting. what was tried to defend their territory as other one was trying to sneak in. They're also some pups that were roughly three or four months old. They were very cute but again there quite large and their mother was nearby so you definitely do not want to get near them.

The park itself is very beautiful and there are other places to walk They have nothing to do with the elephant seals. You cannot bring your dogs you cannot ride bikes here. they're very strict with the rules because this is a reserve and they had scientist working here to study the area including the elephant seals. There is even designated eating spots because you cannot bring food out of to the reserve. They're very strict about littering and no trash cans out there.
