Always amazing❣️ Saw a big otter today right by surfers. One surfer quickly swam away to be respectful of the otter
Bad news first. Crowded. The exit off Hwy 1 leads here. Good news, it's a great scene. Typical reef Santa Cruz surf. Multiple takeoff zones, if you can surf in crowds, you'll love it. Localism is not bad, they gave up.
Watched the sunrise beautiful what else can I say just pull over and enjoy the view
Part of Pleasure Point and Opal Cliffs area. Has stairways for beach and water access. Small parking lot and bathroom near cliff top path. Great views and surfing when swell is right. Can get quite cold and windy. Make sure you have warm clothes available. It can be warm inland and cold here.
One of our favorite places to surf in Santa Cruz. It is also one of the few places in town that support low and high tide, although it loves a mid-tide of around 2.4 ft. I would call the Hook an intermediate level surf spot and do watch out, depending on the day, the locals here can be a bit aggressive and will chase you down if you drop in on them or get in their way. It can also sometimes be reasonably crowded. Off to the left (looking out from the beach) of the main break is a more beginners area which is a great option for the less advanced surfer. The parking lot is often full at peak times, so be prepared to look for street parking. When it gets big here be careful as the tides and currents can be strong.
