“Michael Hamilton is one of the most genuine, intelligent & honest humans I have had the opportunity to speak with. I have been sitting down with Michael for a few months now to help clear my mind and help get my brain functioning back to normal, as it was being overcrowded with too many thoughts. He helped me realign with myself and become grounded again. Guiding me through my thoughts to bring me back on track with where I need to be, as if clearing my brains spam folder. I see him as a confidante, a life coach, a nonjudgmental listener and a friend. He takes notes about what you are saying but also about what you are not saying to help remind you who you are and gives a gentle push on where you need to be. I highly recommend Michael to anyone who needs a calm, resolute voice to get them back on track. Thank you Michael.”

“Communicative, friendly, honest, and transparent people! I recently had my Honda Accord serviced for AC repair (Compressor) and install a new starter. Additionally, I brought in my 2016 Nissan Altima for spark plug replacement. They’ve completed both of my vehicles and successfully repaired the issues with no problem at all. I highly recommend visiting Benicia Auto Repair to repair/maintain all your vehicle’s needs and/or issues.”

“I started attending classes here a little more than a year ago. Before then, I had been living a largely sedentary lifestyle. Sure I worked out, did some fitness studio classes, and assumed I was fit. But the type of shape I got into after dedicating to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under New Creation is on a whole other level! I lost ~15 additional pounds. I've gotten more disciplined about what I eat and my supplements. I don't get fatigued toward the end of the day. And my mood is much more even. I owe it to the culture at New Creation, the camaraderie among the people here, and the genuine care the coaches have for everyone who shows up to put in the work. My only regret is that I didn't start on this journey sooner. There is a diverse set of people who call this place home and its people family. And that's what I feel is the biggest benefit I get out of this place. I'm a big introvert by nature and have never been an aggressive person. And I'm accepted among a group of folks who are aspiring pro fighters, successful competitors, and all around strong physically, mentally, and spiritually. As much as New Creation has given me, I aspire to give of myself back. If you're looking to become a pro fighter or if you're just trying to push yourself to be the best version of you, you'll find inspiration and motivation here.”

“Our family decided to begin martial arts training for our children due to the physical fitness, mental challenge and discipline Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teaches them. We whole-heartedly recommend Pro-Faction and Coach Geoff who heads the children and teen's training. He has a unique ability to get through to them: to teach, encourage, push and challenge along the way. All of the coaches expect and require students to show respect and have self-control. My husband and I couldn't be more pleased by the training our children are getting at Pro-Faction. Parents are able to observe class and wait in a couple different areas, younger children in tow. Come check out a class!”

“I'm not a big fan of Crab Rangoon. Most places over fry a thick wonton. Not this place. The Rangoon was very delicate. A paper thin wonton fried to perfection and presented very nicely. I like papaya salad but a lot of places drench it until it's a wet mess. Here the Som Tum salad was very crisp was just right amount of dressing. We also tried 3 different curries and all were very good. This place is only 7 minutes from my house. I will be back!”

“Sweetness ABOUT THE STORE Located in downtown Benicia, this floral boutique is nicely situated on the town’s Main Street, just a few blocks from the water. I’ve popped in a couple of times and it is always filled with fresh flowers that are in full view upon entering. Though their primary are fresh flowers, they do have a few plants and dried flowers available. They also sell other merch for your gifting or self-indulgent needs (this is a no judgement zone). Items include: beautiful waffle robes, silk masks, candles and lotions. What I particularly love are the branches hanging from the ceiling; the store design lets you know they put a lot of thought into creating a warm and inviting space. Almost as though you were entering a friend’s home to pick up flowers from their garden (which they do have a small outdoor space where other plants hang out). EXPERIENCE I came in for a dried floral arrangement with nothing but my vase and zero ideas to contribute. My brief was simple: anything that did not require water/maintenance). Though this shop does mainly focus on florals, Mariko didn’t bat an eye and briefly disappeared and returned with a base for a bouquet that we continued to work on together. She asked for feedback on colors (did we love them? Hate them?) and though I tend to lean towards neutrals, it was clear that a punch of color was the right option based on her pulls. Since I had not yet decided where it would be placed in my home, she helped to ensure that the arrangement would look great at any angle you viewed it from. The attached photo is the final arrangement in-store along with the vase I brought in. SERVICE I really appreciate how responsive the owner was on social media. I’ve reached out initially about my vase via Instagram along with a few other needs I had. I can promise you that these pre-caffeinated messages rambled a bit and we’re scattered. But the responses where quick, friendly and helpful! This team really likes working with their clients and encourages collaboration with any arrangement they are creating, which is evident in our exchange. As someone who is florally inept, it is fun to have a partner in a business to help bring in more life into a home. BONUS: they are right next to Fox and Fawn bakehouse. So you may as well pick a cupcake or cookie up while you are there.”

“Finding a massage therapist is easy. Finding *your* massage therapist is a different story. Enter Lito of Active Comfort. If you’ve been searching for a masseuse in Benicia keep reading. Or don’t bother and just hit up the site to schedule an appointment. Otherwise if you like an in-depth review, keep reading. If you don’t then you’re SOL (sorry, not sorry). BOOKING AN APPOINTMENT You can book an appointment by using the site’s contact out form. I sent an inquiry in and received a response quickly after. We exchanged some quick messages to coordinate time and everything was booked. I was in the next day. AMBIANCE Active Comfort is one of many other business that are part of The Suite Spot. The common space has a seating area while you wait for your appointment. The space is shared by other small business owners offering other self care services (facials, waxing, spray tans). The space is no frills but it does the job. The massage room is large with one bed. The bed is nice and plush. Slipping in between the sheets you will feel the warmth of the bed to help your muscles relax. But my favorite part was the music; it started out with typical spa music but later transitioned into instrumental Disney music. The right level of nostalgia for me. THE EXPERIENCE I arrive about 10 min before my appointment. Once I entered the common space, Lito came to greet me short after. We entered the room and discussed areas of concern. For me, my shoulders and upper back. Unlike other massages, the service begins with assisted stretches on your back (clothes on). This helps to loosen you up and the stretches feel really nice. If you’ve ever been fortunate enough to try a personal trainer, it’s akin to the stretches they help you with in your cool down session. It is NOT like the types of stretches of spas attempt to do it feels like they are whipping your limbs around. These stretches are intentional. You will feel the stretch and it will feel great. After a few minutes of this, Lito stepped out so we could bring my massage. I prefer a firm massage because of how much tension and knots I have in my back. Lito had great and consistent pressure and provided acupressure in places where I needed it. Lito found my knots. And then he found knots I didn’t even know I had. As with any massage therapist, Lito checked in on the pressure to make sure it was meeting my needs but what really sets him apart is once it was time to turn over, he asked if there were any other areas I wanted to go over again before making the flip. No one has ever asked me this before and I really appreciated it. His massage does incorporate a lot of stretches which helps to loosen muscles and increase the blood flow. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this but I really enjoyed it. I already know midway through my appointment that I would be back. Lastly, Lito’s towel/coverage etiquette is excellent. I was always appropriately covered and securely in place. If you only like massages by a female therapist or are looking for a couples massage, you’ll have to keep looking. AVAILS Hours of operation are noted on the site but will call out that Active Comfort is open until 9pm most days. This means relaxation after hours is possible which is critical for me when I have a random knot in my shoulder I need help with. MY ONLY REGRET I only booked a 60 minute appointment. I should’ve booked 90 minutes. I’m already counting down to my next appointment.”
