Incredibly beautiful coast! Stop and have fish and chips in bodega bay and make sure you drive to Bodega Head. Stop by Jenner and see where the ocean meets the Russian river. This is a great day trip too!
Some of the best views of the coast. You don't see them from the highway so don't miss this stop off. Make sure to follow the road all the way around and down to the beach for some awesome views and great ocean rock formations. If you're coming from the north down highway 1 this is the first stop and easy to miss since you don't see the ocean at the exit. Trust me and make the turn off and follow the road.
A great State Park with various hiking trails, beaches, unique scenery, and great views. Well worth a visit if traveling along Hwy 1. Peaceful and not to busy when I visited.
We were there on a clear day, temps in the upper 70s, a slight breeze. This beach is where the Russian River greets the sea. Flocks of pelicans soared gracefully overheard. A perfect spot to appreciate the ebb and flow of the ocean waves, and simply relax while reflecting on life.
Before you go thinking that this would be a wonderful sit out and enjoy kind of beach, I'm making a point to preface this with how windy it gets at this beach. It can be greater than 15 knots at times, and isn't a detractor for enjoyability of the sights.
There were great sights to be had. The intersection of the Russian River and the Pacific Ocean in the area is a spectacular sight. Crystal clear waters of the Russian River viewable just on the inland side of the isthmus of the beach. Lots of marine and avian life to observe.

Long sandy beaches below rugged headlands, a craggy coastline with natural arches and secluded coves are features that make Sonoma Coast State Park one of California's most scenic attractions.
The Sonoma Coast State Park is the most breathtaking of Sonoma's state parks. The terrain is anything but flat. It's all towering cliffs with rocky outcroppings. While Sonoma Coast State Beach is quite large it is full of scenery that is so beautiful I wouldn't want to see this part of the park overlooked.
