We stumbled upon this beautiful park while visiting the Petaluma KOA with another family. Stunning red tip winged sparrows kept us company while strolling the 4 mile loop. A perfect afternoon walk, even for 2 nine-year old kids!
Nice flat walk in under an hour. Easy parking, lots of bird life and tidal changes. Generally not too busy.
2 mile circuit along the river with a spectacular bird population. Great for walking the dogs and getting a little exercise in. Easy safe place to run as well!
Wonderful expansive Waterfowl Refuge located on the lovely Petaluma River! A walking path goes all the way around! Excellent for runners, walkers, bicycles! Wide array of wildlife, some 'in residence' and some passing through on their annual migrations! Herons, Egrets, Swans, Ducks, Canada Geese, Turtles, Snakes and more!Nature tours available by Wildlife specialists! A Natural Treasure! WOW!
Beautiful location to walk in nature and stroll or jog on your choice of paved or gravel surfaces. Lots of choices of paths wind throughout the estuary, along the Petaluma River and among brackish ponds.
It is a much needed sanctuary for thousands of birds of a huge variety year round. My favorite time to go is in the Spring when all the babies are out with their mothers.
There are three sort of distinct sections in the park, so you can choose one or travel through all three. It's also a great place for bicycle riding and bird watching is a must. Lots of spots to stop for a snack or lunch.
There are public restrooms at a couple locations, as well as a few different parking lots. Parking is free. It's open Dawn to dusk. There are waste bins, picnic tables and resting benches conveniently located throughout as well. Bringing binoculars and or a camera is worth the effort.
One caution, there is no cover anywhere from sun or rain or wind, so go prepared in extreme weather.
