We had a wonderful tour of Sonoma! Amazing and unique mix of wines and food with interesting information along the way. Highly recommend! Renee is great!
Had the most lovely tour yesterday - fantastic wine, food and information. Our hostess, Arlene, had so much knowledge about the food and wine. Learned so much about the history of Sonoma County. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area.
I have experienced nearly all the tours in all of the towns and have the best memories from each of these days. Don't hesitate, because Renée's tours give you the best farm to table food with each stop showcasing local wine. Her knowledge of history, food and wine run deep and you will never feel bored or anxious. You will feel as though you have a new friend and the truth is, you will!
This personalized tour began by first meeting up with our guide Renee at the Sonoma visitor center. The group of four started by walking around the town's center plaza as Renee gave a brief but very informative background history of Sonoma as a town. The allure of the town was vividly painted as she gave incite as to how the entire town came to be in its modern state. One highlight was learning that the original California flag was raised right on a corner of the plaza, declaring CA an independent republic. Renee was professional and knowledgeable with any and all questions asked throughout the entirety of the tour.
We then began stopping at handpicked locations and hotspots of Sonoma throughout the quaint downtown area. The first stop was the amazing little spot called, “ The Girl and the Fig.” The group enjoyed a seasonally inspired cheese and snack plate which included a biscotti with lavender honey & butter, fig jam with a peach slice, and an assortment of spiced nuts. We also enjoyed an incredibly selected champagne pairing which perfectly complimented the plate. We were off to the next stop with a short stroll across the street.
The group was now in the “Eldorado Kitchen”, a restaurant which was in the lower section of The Eldorado Hotel of Sonoma. This was my favorite food stop along the way. Here, we consumed the best ahi-tuna taco I've ever eaten as well as these mouthwatering fries; both of which are only available in a small time window from 3-5pm at the kitchen. The white wine pairing went so well with these two distinct bites as we all discussed just how delicious everything was.
The third stop landed us all at Delhi Belly, an Indian restaurant. We all split an appetizer of Chat, Indian for snack, with three separate sauces. Our group then had date/coconut Nan bread and these incredible chicken pieces that just melted in our mouths. The Indian white wine pairing chosen by Renee lent a subtle tie to the whole meal.
The last (but not least) stop on the tour ended us at “The Galatea Effect”. This was my favorite drink stop along our tour. We had two sections of red wines with which the second was paired with this dark chocolate patty from coco planet. The reds were absolutely euphoric and the dark chocolate was heavenly. It was the perfect small dessert bite to wrap up the entire tour.
All in all the tour was very well designed and layed out to match the towns unique highlights. Every person we encountered at each of the four stops was genuinely kind and added to the overall experience. I believe more people should enjoy Renee's tours because one ends up coming away with a greater idea of the town, the people, the magnificant food and of course, the unbelievable wine. The select pairings of food & wine as we moved from spot to spot, give a well thought out overview of some of the best of what Sonoma has to offer. Renee is a world-class food & wine tour aficionado, who really knows her stuff. Highly recommend any and all of her tours.
I love Gourmet Food and Wine Tours! They provide excellent team building experiences in the wine country. It wouldn't be possible without the expertise of founder Renée ReBell. She did a last minute tour for me and my department and my my coworkers still rave about their experience at Sonoma Plaza. I would highly recommend her to anyone as she's very professional and the Sonoma Food and Wine Tour was out of this world!
