Short hike, but steep incline. The parking lot has very limited availability. There is no public restroom anywhere on site. When you reach the end of the initial incline, you are presented with three options- one, right to head back towards the ocean along a flat ridge, or left to either go up another incline which leads to the summit or into a valley with rolling hills and meadows.
If you ate looking for a challenge, an outstanding 1-1.5 hour workout, then the Chumash Trail may be just your ticket. Like an elevator you hike straight up into the sky for 1,244 feet of elevation in 1.4 miles. You are greeted with spectacular views and a lovely breeze.
A climb right from the jump! Beautiful beautiful view from the top. Totally worth my burning lungs!????
I love this trail. Today was a beautiful day, I could see the Rocky Crags on the left side of the trail and the ocean and the Islands on the right side, it was clear and beautiful, as far as I could see. Its steep as you start the trail, going up 1200' in 1.2 miles. When you get to the flag it's nothing but beauty in every direction. God's glory is on display all around us!
It takes me about a little over an hour to finish. There's one steep climb, but the way back is easy. One the top I'd imagine that there would be a gorgeous view of the ocean. Unfortunately, everytime I go there's a marine layer so I miss out. I'd highly recommend it to beginners like me. Just make sure to wear shoes with really great traction especially on the way up.
