Perfect for hikers and hunters
IMPORTANT!
Bring lots of water and snacks for a day hike. Plan your trip and let someone know you will be hiking in the area so they can come and assist if you have an emergency. There is no cell phone service. Do not deviate from your planned route and time frame.
There are steep mountain sides and no railing to protect from falls. Some sections of the trail go past drop offs that will most likely lead to death if you fall.
Why 4 stars. This is the beginning of the trail that takes you to the Deal Campground. Once at Deal, the trail branches to Upper Rancho Nuevo Campsite, which is another 6 to 7 miles. I would rate the trail as moderate for physically active people. The elevation changes are gradual and spaced out. We went during the month of July and the temperature was about 95 degrees F. Bees where everywhere in the thickest areas of the trail. About 2 miles past the Deal campsite, we stumbled on a large bee hive and caused us to redirect.
Not much of vast and open scenery, however, you will enjoy the quiet and tranquil sounds of nature. No one else is around.
The beaten trail crosses the creek multiple times. Ensure you keep your footwear and feet dry. Muddy areas may prevent you from crossing the creek and find another path.
Getting lost is almost impossible. Just follow the creek.
