(November 29, 2018, 2:23 pm)Ryan Elwood is a rare instructor who is masterful and meets students where they are. Ryan took the time to build a relationship with my son who has learning disabilities. Ryan uses humor and creative instruction techniques to get the best performance from students. My son enjoys playing duets with Ryan and working on pieces to be played with his school band. Ryan takes a personal interest in his students as people and drummers. He cares about developing good habits and keeps lessons positive and encouraging. Ryan also provides information so we can attend live performances and see professional drummers in various styles, and genres. We whole heartedly recommend Ryan with older students and young students who are serious about being better drummers.
(January 5, 2017, 11:00 pm)Ryan is not only a great drum player (who actively plays gigs!), he is a true educator and excellent communicator. I'm a later-in-life drummer, taking lessons in my 30s, and I'm a teacher myself, so I had very high expectations of a music teacher. He has poured out drumming theory to help my mind learn and he is extremely patient and persistent teaching my physical movements. The combination of these two things have made all the difference. I came in knowing the basics and after only a few weeks learning from Ryan, I now have a deeper love & respect of drumming as an art form. If someone can help transform your knowledge, physical ability, and love for drumming, its Ryan!
(December 6, 2016, 1:14 pm)I started playing drums at age 52, and then began periodic lessons with Ryan about a year later. He was really able to quickly help me focus and direct my energies as a beginning jazz drummer, to the point where I was able to start playing with other musicians within the next year. I still occasionally see him when time permits and I need a tune-up, and his direction and advice is always spot-on!
(December 3, 2016, 1:30 am)Ryan was my drum teacher for over 4 years. He was not only my teacher, but a mentor and a friend. He pushed me and challenged me to become a better drummer. He saw potential in me when I couldn't see it myself. If anyone of any age or skill level, wants to learn the basics, master a new technique, or anything in between, then Ryan Elwood is your guy.
