Parking Lot for the Mesa Trail South Trailhead

A parking lot is not much to get excited about, but the runs or hikes you can take from here or the Dowdy Draw Trailhead across the street are worth getting excited about. If you are a trail runner you will find the inclines runnable and before long you will work your way past those out for a pleasant stroll.

I recommend heading up to the Mesa Trail via Homestead or Towee trails and head north until you can go west to loop up behind Green Mountain or Bear Peak. Shadow Canyon becomes rather steep for a run, but it's not impossible.

I also never tire of going south up Dowdy Draw to North and South Spring Brook Loop and the Goshawk Trail. From there you can take the Fowler Trail over to Rattlesnake Gulch, or head over to the north side and you can run all the way to Walker Ranch.

Make sure you bring sunscreen, plenty of water, and if you spot a rattlesnake, give it space and go on.

Loved the hike to South Boulder Peak. Very challenging and fun. Defiantly going to try other trails when I have the chance!

The bike from this parking is nice, you can make it longer or shorter but the elevation gain is insignificant. Parking itself is pretty small and on the weekends you usually need to wait for someone to leave. Parking fee is $5 for non-boulder county residents. Or free with state parks sticker. There are bathrooms, but they are not very clean, but better than nothing
