I truly can't say enough amazing things about Growing Self. Brenda Fahn is an awesome therapist/life coach who has helped me change my entire life. Nearly two years ago, I felt like I had hit the proverbial rock bottom. My career was burning me out, I suffered from major perfectionistic tendencies, and I was very depressed--to mention just a few of my issues. Basically, I had no idea how to go about fixing things, but I knew I needed to do something--and fast. Luckily, I met Brenda who has been such a guiding light with her wonderful wisdom and great sense of humor. The rapport we've created has given me the courage to step outside of my comfort zone and follow exciting new paths. I'm not quite sure where I would be if I hadn't decided to reach out and ask for the help I so badly needed. I can only say thank you to Growing Self and to Brenda.
Our experience has been awesome! My fiancé and I decided to do premarital counseling with Growing Self for two main reasons: 1) we wanted a non-class like atmosphere where we could feel more comfortable talking about problems/issues/values. We didn’t want to feel like we were going through a program. 2) we wanted our premarital counseling to be done in a non-religious format. We were provided a pre-counseling assessment that helped navigate our time with Growing Self so we didn’t spend time or money on things that didn’t need to be focused on. The assessment was based on values, experiences and perceptions related to past experiences that had caused us trouble. We were allowed to dictate which topics needed to be discussed first and foremost, as well as be a part of the process in determining whether or not we had made headway on certain topics. Through this experience, we have felt respected, listened to by not only the counselor but by each other, and it had been very comfortable from the start. The best part is, if we had not liked our first encounter with our counselor, we had the option of picking someone else in a discrete way as to not make anything awkward, which is great if your personality doesn’t end up matching well with your counselor.
