My mother and I used to catalogue old cemeteries and this was once of our favorites! It has a beautiful view and is tucked away nicely from the hussle and bussle of all the casinos down in the main part of town. Its a nice little hike to go all around the cemetery and its fun to see nature take over the tombstones a little bit. The cemetery is at the end of what is called Upper Apex Rd at the top of central city. It can be slippery and icy in winter conditions. Also mind the trees, bee's put there nests in the tree!
So sad that many of the headstones have been removed from their proper place or taken. Still one of my favorite places to go since you can right there go to the odd fellows, catholic, and city cemetery. Lots of history there. Be sure to stop by the info center in Central City!
Very interesting place. You will be amazed at how your mind can travel back in time and imagine the place and how people had to endure over 100 years ago. You can even find a Medal of Honor winner buried here. Unfortunately the vets buried here don't seem to get the respect or care of their final resting place deserves.
So many echos of the past. A great place to picnic and reflect.
