There are days you just say “No” to I-70 ski traffic and enjoy the slower pace of snowshoeing.
Beautiful trail for snowshoeing!#
Great place to go hiking, amazing views. During the color changing times would present the best times to go up but great views regardless. Be careful when you go up during the color changing times as people will park anywhere, stopping in the middle of the roads and reducing highways to one lane roads. Get up there early to start your hike. Abyss Lake is about 17 miles round trip but you don't have to hike all the way up to enjoy the views. At the trailhead you should fill out the paperwork for a permit, it is free but just tracks the foot traffic in and out. First half of the hike has a wide trail and is an easy hike with water crossings. It is also dog friendly but no waste containers ong the trail so remember to pack out what you bring in.
Beautiful hike. Very long but phenomenal views.
